Gas in your oil? EFI and carb tuning discussion

Mine on my kx ran, and is running great. The controller nick set up for me last spring was a read only set up, but after my son installed the latest program from dobeck all it does is flash green blue green blue until you rap it up then goes back to the green blue green blue. It did this and I sent it in and was told everything was fine. Well it's not working and I will be returning it AGAIN..I hope yours works better than mine.

Mt doo....why don't you sent me that carb and I will test it while you have you head in the clouds!!!my bike is back to the kiss method for the ride tomorrow. Please give me that link to your koso gauge.

MtnDoo u sure ur allowed to post that pic LOL. Corey you better take that away from MtnDoo and send it straight to my house for testing !

I have a 2013 WR450 and am wondering if getting the Yamaha programmer is going to do me any good or if I should be looking at a different kind of programmer. I'm not looking for hp gains yet, just wanting to avoid fuel/oil problems and keep it running good at alt and low temps.

Any ideas what's going on nick??? My gen 4 worked flawlessly last year, other than the two-three kick start problems, which your guys pulling the sensor warm up power out until the bike was running fixed. I am a little frustrated (understatement) with this controller, if you remember it was not reading afr at low rpm last summer when it was in its read only program, then when we flashed the new program into the gauge it would just do this green red flash and Chris told me to send in the box as they needed to install a different program in it. Well something isn't working right. Any help would be great. Thanks

All the fuel control is great, especially if you want to get the most out of your bike, but don't forget about trying to get your engine up to a good temp and keep it there consistently without rapid changes. In my limited experience, this means keeping blowing snow off the cylinder (I like using cut up crazy carpet). I'm not a fueling expert, but I'd bet the experts on here will say this helps there systems work to their fullest.

I'd like to hear from the experts, how cylinder temps (including rapid changes) effect the fueling.

Absolutely true. I installed a P3 Carbon fiber skid plate last week for just that reason. It goes high in the front and has "wings" high on the sides. It is not insulating the engine but will be a protection for the crank case and lower engine. That is our oil sump. The crank case plowing through pow all day keeps the oil sump super cold. That cold oil is pumped through the engine further cooling everything. I am sure a "tall" coverage skid plate will raise oil temps significantly.

All I remember about the skid plates were they turned into big wet ice blocks that you constantly had to kick free. Maybe the carbon fiber one will be different?

gman... I still have the code from last year that worked well for me (as well as the newest code). You want me to send that over to you so you can try it?

Thanks rush

I think I still have it also. But why won't this one work..???dobeck had it for a week and said everything was fine other than the grease. Just got back from a ride and the bike ran perfect other than only getting 100-120 temps with the thermostat installed. Three feet of powder and snow was coating everything. I have to get the temps up. Please post if you get the green red flashing on yours.

Ran perfect with "No Controller" ?

Yes no controller. It's sitting on the bench.i am tempted to check ohms on my air intake probe at say 35 degrees and get a resistor that matches that ohms and install it to fool the engine into thinking it 35 all the time. On my kx last year it didn't dump much fuel untill it got down to about 15-20, then it went rich in a hurry, if I would of installed the thermostat and the resistor I don't think a controller would be needed but it was nice, when it works. I was going to buy a koso afr but I am hoping I can use my controller as I already have the coin invested. I thought you said 99 bucks but I think you missed a 1 randy....

Does anybody out there have a good setup for the EXC500 KTM?

Has anybody tried re-positioning the TPS for the fuel injected KTM's? It definitely works when there is warmer weather on the EXC to get rid of the off throttle popping, but that is almost the opposite situation.

There's no snow around here to test mine out :mmph:

Sneak Peak,!!!
Coming February.... No EFI Hassles, to Gas in the oil, No Altitude or Temp adjustments, no tuners, no programmers, more "HP", better fuel economy, summer / winter, no brainer..... Stay tuned. Lots of fun testing ahead

Well may have a handle on what's up with my controller. It seems the band width that turns on the controller was not working at the set pointe it was supposed to??? Thanks Matt. I have faith again. And thanks nick, I learned a lot from our conversation

tseaberg,
I attempted to move my TPS around on a 350SXF, but that ushered in hard starting issues as the low voltage was not spec'd to what the ECU wanted to see.
For your KTM 500EXC, Dynojet can outfit you with a Power Commander to Absolutely take care of that Decel-Pop! We have a stock-improved map ready to go for that exact machine not only to clean up the gas in your oil (subtracting upwards of 20% fuel on top end!), but also provide more consistent response in the mid-range (KTMs are crispy here).
The Decel pop is tunable by fueling the engine more when you are letting off the gas and returning to idle -- and only in the 0% TP area, so it doesn't affect cruising or any other running condition. 350's are horrid for doing this, but was an easy tweek in the map to solve it!!

I've received a lot of interest in emails/PM's from guys wanting a swift solution to obtain a perfectly fueled bike on the snow. Sometimes OE calibrations extend far enough into the low temps/high elevations to fuel adequately -- and sometimes they do not. That is where we come in!!
