fuel mileage with duramax

I have a 2007 classic style duramax
it has a AFE cold air intake, Predator Programer, Straight pipe BD 4'' Exaust, and BD Exaust Manifold. Dynoed at 515HP. When pulling our 4 place encloused trailer i get 26 MPG at 78 MPH. Without trailer i sit at 34MPG at 80 MPH. And this is running 34'' tires.

Wow!

Hard to believe someone can say this with apparently a straight face.:D

My N14 Cummins has a 5" exhaust and a measly 460 hp and gets 7mpg bobtailing. I guess you win...

There is a little more done to this truck from what i said on the forum. You need to do way more than an exaust, intake, and programmer to get this kind of power and economy. i have invested lots of money into this truck to get the economy and power. and yes it is possable. Learn your Diesels

I'd like to know how it runs w/out the dpf. I had an Edge on my 05 D-Max, it was great. I just switched from the Edge w/attitude to Banks PDA on my 08 D-Max. It's alot better now. Edge runs horrible on the new trucks. Pushes to much fuel through when pulling a heavy load.

I'll let you know as soon as the PPE programmer with the dpf delete tune shows up! the place im getting it done at has done several of these and they all work great. a noticeable increase in mileage.

06 crew, 6" lift, 35/20's, Bullydog Tri dog ( most of the time on performance 20 % of the time on extreme ),4" exaust, cold air intake bla bla..
Computer states 12.7 avg every day driving weekend towing 2 & 4 place open. Not an easy peddler...:D
Not sure what to add for the 35's ? 10 % ?
Maby 14 ish avg.

Stopped by my shop today, they are installing a PPE DPF delete now on an 08, PPE also said you can stack with the Banks PDA. I would rather just get the DPF delete and not stack. Also have to check on what this does to the warranty.

#2: thats with the key off going down hill with a tail wind...

i figured out how he gets that kind of mileage....

he put a duramax emblem on a friggin vw jetta tdi.....

btw, if you can get that kind of mileage out of a duramax, you should definately contact chevy, im sure they would pay you millions for you to show them how...

I'd really like to hear what has been done to that truck in order to get that kind of mileage. My Duramax gets 15-18...depending on how its driven. 05 LLY, Bullydog Tri-dog on tow / econ mode, AFE stage 2, running 285's.

Test drove a 2008 Chevy Duramax with a lift and after market rims & tires today. I heard that it's not good on a diesel engine if you are just going to be driving it around town most of the time. Any truth to this? I would only be pulling my 4 place enclosed in the winter plus I make about 5 or 6 trips to either Colorado or Montana a year not pulling a trailer.

If you had the option of trading your current vehicle off for a new 08 Duramax, would only be financing about $20K and your payments would only increase about $50 bucks more than what your current payment is right now would you? Taking into consideration the fact that you would also be adding to your monthly fuel expense going from gas to diesel.

got my truck back with the filter and cat gone. with the PPE hot programmer on level fourand im getting 19 mpg in the city havent had the chance to do any highway driving yet. im excited though...

oh and it goes retarted good.

filter??? what kind of filter? i have straight 4 inch from the turbo back. no cat, no muffler.. dont get that kind of mileage..

If your truck isn't an 08 it didn't come with a filter. I talked to a guy last week that also did the PPE and filter delete and has no problems. He is screwed on his warranty though.

ya thats true on the warrranty thing. but the shop i go to is keeping the censors. so if you have to take it in for warranty you just unbolt the filter delete pipe and put the filter back in. they are using the bully dog PMT for this it works great.

i bought mine new also. you here all these guys talking about getting 21 pulling something, thats why i was pissed about 16.2 i guess mine aint as bad as i thought

This rig got about 16 towing the rig in the (Pic won't post... it was an '02 2500HD with 114,00 on her towing a 81 3/4 ton lifted 454 on about the only trailer I could find wide enough to get it on) Pic over Snoqualmie from ellensburg to home. My 72 427 3/4 (8 -12 MPG) ton lost a tranny last elk season in Ellensburg and I rented the same rig to tow my 24' 4 place enclosed home and got about the same.
Bought an O5 2500HD with 60,000 and haven't towed anything yet. But the last time I filled up I hit the trip A reset, did some around home driving and took a trip to leavenworth last Saturday. When I got home I figured that I'd better fill up since it won't be cheaper later on. Looked at the mileage on trip A and saw 236Mi. Since my computer was claiming 19.9 MPG, I figured I'd need about 11 gallons. When I filled her up she stopped a 8.1. All I could get in was 8.5
Do the math. I couldn't believe it. We'll see how it does with a load later.
I DON'T commute with this rig, (since the Saturn gets 36MPG) and I keep my foot out of the turbocharger as much as possible
