Fresh Snow!

Bad blood here you didn't do anything. One of the bashers above has been banned before and has a new screen name just to give you an idea. This Colorado area used to have hundreds of users and the spats have reduced it to this, you didn't do anything wrong.

Yep, I am on at LEAST my fourth username for this forum over the years. That is what happens when you aren't a very PC person like myself. Make no mistake, I do not like stingray, we have gone around and around. Probably not going to change even if I have to invent some more user names LOL.

"basher"? I wasn't bashing you, just pointing out that you don't know what the flock you are talking about, as confirmed by my peers...

I also have steered countless out of towners to the good stuff in my neck of the woods using real first hand reports, and I will continue to do so. This forum remains very useful in that respect. Lots of people who actually live in the mountains giving people quality advice so they can come out and have a GREAT experience. Maybe if YOU tried THAT, you wouldn't feel so out of place in the Colorado section.

Everybody was trying to help the OP until YOU showed up. Better take a look in the mirror...

After what I saw up there today, I can only recommend staying on the trail. It's all settled to about 2 feet, which is not even close to enough to be riding off trail on the Mesa. The good news is that the trails to the east of the lodge are groomed already and in fantastic shape, nothing to the west is groomed yet, I presume because it's too thin. You should be able to have a great time on the trail, with lots of miles possible. Lakes are sketchy, though most are capped at this point. We were ice fishing and ice thickness varied from 3-8 inches, we DID NOT take sleds on the lakes at this point.

Maybe I didn't see it, but can someone respond to my two questions in my recent post #52? Thanks in advance!

Just shy of 5 hours on 70 in good traffic, hit some weather, and 70 is such a trainwreck with crappy drivers it could take double that, or even have to spend the night on the road.

Altitude is above my pay grade, but appears to be 6k to 11k.

Boy that doesn't sound good. (I-70) It's 17-18 hour drive just to Denver for us.

Hit it just right, and you'll think 70 is the best thing since buttered bread. Hit it wrong, and you'll be blowing your stack certain that humanity is doomed.

If you wanna go 70, just watch the weather, and avoid peak traffic times. Especially weekend ski traffic.

Plus there's more than one way to get to the Mesa, like going 80 and dropping down, or going south and taking hwy 50.

And secondly, there's plenty of other places to ride closer than the Mesa.

Grand Lake, Cottonwood Pass, Vail Pass, Corona, Rabbit Ears, Buff Pass, Hahns Peak, Marshall Pass, North Fork, Leadville has couple spots, as does most towns down 70 on the way to the Mesa.

Check out the Colorado Snowmobile Association website for area maps, and even they don't have all the riding areas on there.

Just went to steamboat last week from St. Cloud. It took about 21hrs to get there. Hit some pretty bad wind in South Dakota which caused us to get 5mpg and nothing over 50mph in a dodge diesel. Rabbit ears and buff pass are your closest/best snow.

Hope that helps

As it turned out the warm weather melted a lot of snow and east of the lodges is where we ended up going. But Friday's snow made it a blast both east and west of the lodges, although there were a lot of rocks.
