freeride sled

the doo is easier to convert and less maintence when done. depending on how you use it the poo is not as good of a "trail sled". if you are only going to use it for ramps then it doesn't much matter. i went through the same thing last winter. i went with the rev, it was easier to convert, less maintence ( you have to worry about the center crank bearing on the poo, has to be greased all the time). if you buy an 05 you had to fix the track angle. for trail use they require you to change the spindles for better steering ( not a necessity). and the largest thing for me, that damn seat is so uncomfortable, but if you spend zero tim sitting on it then who cares. i love the look of the sled and it is bullet proof, i say if you only do ramps get the poo, but if you are going to trail convert and ride alot of other stuff get a doo.

thanks for the reply. as i said, this is going to be for free riding, i jsut want to run pump gas for ease. its everywhere and cheaper than 110.
for trail riding i already have two doo's. an 02 mxz 800 renegade, and a 05 mxz 800 renegade H.O.
as i said earlier in the thread i'm looking for durability.

the center crank bearing, is that easy to get at to grease? its not that big of a deal to me as i do regular maintenance on my sleds.

If anyone wants to see a video of my friend trying a back flip and landing upside down let me know. Just send me a text to 406-224-0067. A 30-40 foot drop on hard pack snow landing upside down and all it did was crack the hood, pop a few rivets and dent the pipe. If you did that with a rev you would be out an entire front end.
.

holy ****! just watched that vid, insane! if thats all that happened to that sled... i dont know im a little speachless

You might also want to look into a PRO X. I found one for $1700 for my friend and if he doesn't buy it i am just because you can not find a strong well built machine for less. If i were you and i found a really cheap Pro x i would buy it just because they are vary strong as well. I can not comment on the riding style of these sleds or exactly how strong they are because they are the only Polaris chassis i have not rode yet... :(

i rode a buddys pro X, dont like the way it feels.
just odd.

i have found a few rolling chassis IQR's near me for cheap.
how hard would it be to swap in a pump gas 600 or even and 800?

I can give you a little input based on my experiance of working on, riding and building the IQRs into mountain conversions, I am not a free rider but have seen first hand what it does to the sleds.
First of all the IQR has the strongest bulkhead and front suspension.
The 07-08s are stronger then 05-06s due to reinforcements in the Bulkhead, My choice for a Mt conversion is and 06 because it has the lightest bulkhead, but also the weakest ( still a whole lot stronger then a consumer Mt.sled).
Get a 600 it is still lightweight and will give you the better speed and throttle response for when conditions that are not perfect.

i'm not sure what is involved exactly with the center crank and other things. if you know sleds you will be fine. for me i'm new to the whole thing and i didn't want to deal with it. i say get the iq, sounds like it will be your 2nd or 3rd sled. go to jspowersports, they have everything you need to get the conversion down, they even post up set ups from thier 05 conversion. depending on the year you get you will need a timing switch. also chekc out harcoresledder under the polaris 440/modified section, lots of good info in there for the conversion. good luck and have fun, its a sick sled.
