Fox Evols on Pro

I really liked the assault I tried. How do those compare to the walker Evans on on the assault? And z broz?

Can't say for the Zbroz but the Assault shocks are excellent also except for the price. Once you get the Evols set properly, they rock. I had Float 2's on my XP front and back and swore I would never own another air shock until I rode my buddies Pro with Evols in front. I had them on mine next trip.

I have the Holz FoxFloat package on my 163"
Float 2 up front
evol rear skid
zero FTS.
Real good improvement-like a cadillac on trail and can take som big impacts.
Never liked the WE.Stiff in small bumps/Bottoming in the big stuff.

My list of improvements for PRO.in the correct order.

1#TEAM TIED/11-Series Weights for your elev/Gearing
2#FoxFloatPackage
3#BetterBoards
4#SLP Pipe with Pc5.
5#Afx graphics (Makes you a cooler rider)

got em all.

I have the Zbroz Exit X1's. I've had the Evol R's on my 09 D8 and I've ridden a buddies Pro with them on. I have to say that the Evol R's are very impressive. Do most of the work you would want. However...now that I finally got the X1's on my Pro I see why so many people like the Exit shocks. They are super smooth and soak up anything. They are also more adjustable than the air shocks. The stock WE's are 4 lbs and the X1's are 6.5 (not sure what the Evol R's are). You pick up 2.5 lbs a shock with the Exits, but totally worth it (just loose 5lbs from your gut and you will make up the difference!).

evol's

I got the evol-x's after my first ride with my stock WE's. You will love these shocks. I also have the holz rear skid also. Night and day difference with these shocks. You will NOT be dissapointed. Pump them up to recommended specs for your weight, or you can pump them up more or less then the recommended specs, what ever your personal preference is and then play with the clickers to dial them in even more. That is one of the best things about these shocks, you can adjust them anywhere, anytime. I weigh about 230-240 geared up, and couldnt ask for a better shock. When I get my next sled, this will probably be one of the first mods that I do. These shocks make that much of a difference. Not sure if you run a sway bar or not (I dont), but you really dont need it with these shocks.

What kinda price have you been quoted of the WE assault shocks? It's less then $600 to upgrade the stock Pro shocks to WE needle's (Including valving for your weight) that's a $400 cheaper then Evols.

Get FOX Evol R's for your fronts. Set it up to basic starting spec's that I will recommend once we've discussed your weight, riding conditions, expectations, rear suspension setup, ect. Then you will go out and spend some ride time on and have to fine tune it for personal preference. THE NET RESULT IS..when you get enough experience and do the little this' and that's of these shocks you will be back on the forums SINGING THE PRAISES! That good when you get there...I PROMISE!

Tiny little pressure changes and a click here and there on the rebound is amazing. It's pretty dang magical when you finally get it nailed! I've gone from pretty bad and frustrating to flat out incredible. You just have to do the experimenting.

One other really important factor to consider is that your ski shocks are not the only issue. You'll need to revalve and improve the terrible rear shocks as well at the very very least. The shocks systems have to work together and if your rear system cannot hang then your complete benefit is only as good as those.

has anyone tried running last years evol x on a 2011 pro they said that they wouldn't work but there is less than a qtr of an inch ctc between them. i have a new set from last year that i would like to put on my pro if they work.

Actually .30" shorter than the PRO.

I'm sure you could make some a-arm brackets that woould make up the difference.

This chassis is sensitive to ride height in the front.

Sure some have used the 17.20" IQ shocks... but they would feel even better the right lenght.

If you're a lighter guy I would highly recommend trying them. I weigh 175 and I find I have to crank up the front track shock a lot to get the razor quick handling I like. By going to slightly shorter front shocks you put more pressure on the front of the track so now you don't have to crank down on that shock (also helps attack angle) and you can initiate a countersteer quicker. This is a trick I learned from Tom Dines who has more Evol experience than anyone on this forum, I can assure you!

Have FUN!

PS - If you don't want them then let me know!

I'm fortunate to have Tom as a local dealer... He was actually the man that developed the EVOL R which caught on two years later with other shops.

Loading the front track shock more is also done on the Ski Doo sled (which is what Tom sells at his dealership)...SLP makes a spindle that drops the front, loads the FTS and makes the front more compliant effectively softening the FTS action.

gman... do you ride the Assault or the PRO RMK? Stock Shocks/springs/valving?

I'm on the Pro with standard shocks still and it's just KILLING ME! I'm so beat up after rides that I really don't want to ride her anymore this year. I have Tom's Evol R's all the way around on my '07 Summit which I'll be riding from here on out until I can get/afford new shocks for the Pro. I'm torn between bucking up for the Evols or getting the Holz piggybacks and valving for the stockers at half the cost. Unfortunately money is really tight and I may lose my job thanks to the economy so... will probably have to wait until next season regardless.

Cheers,

G

PS - Good point on whether I was on a Pro or Assault. You wouldn't want to try the lower shocks on the Assault without going to the upper hole location for the front arm.

Are the z broz shocks better then the assault shocks?

I have only ridden the Assault shocks once for about 3 hill pulls. The Exits are light years better than the 09/10 Assault shocks. I would say they are the best shock out there. They are true coil over oil shocks with multiple levels of adjustment. The support from Zbroz and CodeRed were really good too. There was a screw up in my order and they made it right really quick.

Seriously the stock shocks are really that bad? Hard to believe considering this is a premium product. Interesting.

i was thinking the same thing, looking into snow checking and i can't believe that the stock ride is so bad it makes you want to not even go out

The Walker's on the Pro and the new rear skid are 90% better than the Walker air shocks and the older skid. The stock sled flat out rips and handles very well. However, there is probably another 10%-20% gain by going to the aftermarket shocks or custom valved shocks. I personally run the Evol X's but I have bad knees and find the air shocks help reduce fatigue, plus I run with out a sway bar, and have a setup that I fined tuned for myself.

Ignorance is bliss I guess. I'll be charging the mtn on my Evol R equipped Summit tomorrow and DEFINITELY NOT missing out!!! I think you push/charge a helluva lot harder on a well setup suspension and then going backwards to something like the stockers on the Pro just isn't gonna cut it anymore. So... for me, a resounding YES - they are that bad! The stockers don't even have bottom-out bumpers for crying out loud!!!

Have FUN!
