So family would like me to get one, but I dont really have any desire to get one. I have not gotten any since I was a little kid, and have only gotten the flu once. What do you think?

id pass on it. i know of quite a bunch of people that have still gotten the flu even after the shot. ive never gotten one and havent gotten the flu since i was little

To each their own. I have gotten the shot and been sicker ,than the years that i don't get one. Some people swear by them. There are to many different strains of the flu to cover them all. Like the H1N1 they have a new shot just for that one or even the bird flu. I myself will take my chances

Depends. What do you do for a living? What is your exposure risk? Any other health concerns? Any infants or small children in your house? If you have a baby or a small child, I'd say get it, because you've lessened the chance of exposing them to something.

For what it's worth, my wife is a physician. She counsels all of her patients to get it (unless they have other medical conditions which would create unnecessary risk). I used to get one maybe 50% of the time. There were years I got it and still got sick, and years that I didn't get it and never got sick, so obvioulsy it ain't foolproof.

Having said that, now that I have a two-year old, I do get one every year, just to minimize his chances of getting sick. It's the old and the young who die from this stuff.

:eek:I would never get one. Swampy:eek:

The silence is almost deafening in the American press when it comes to publishing information about the potentially lethal link between swine flu vaccine and Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a dread nerve disorder. While other parts of the world are not much better informed, information about the link reached the public in the United Kingdom in mid-August—but only after two letters were leaked to the Daily Mail. The letters were addressed to 600 senior British neurologists. One was from the UK’s Health Protection Agency and the other from the Association of British Neurologists.
The specter of Guillain-Barre is too dangerous to be ignored in the United States, and news that it may be caused by the swine flu vaccine should not be soft-pedaled. Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disorder that ravages the protective sheathing of the nerves, affecting the brain and the spinal cord, and can cause paralysis to the point that patients must be put on respirators in order to breathe. GBS can cause death or permanent disability, and there is no treatment or cure. Although no one knows its exact cause, physicians know it can be triggered by surgery or by vaccinations such as the swine flu vaccine—and the vaccine is the big concern of the moment, given the precedent of 1976.
What happened in 1976? The American government rushed to develop a swine flu vaccine and gave it to about 40 million people. Soon after the deaths of 25 people from paralysis and respiratory failure, the government strongly suspected the vaccine was the cause and withdrew it. The swine flu itself, on the other hand, killed only one person. The new strain of swine flu used in the new vaccine is slightly different, but concerns about GBS remain the same.
Yet another worry about the vaccine is the use of a component oil called squalene. According to prominent American neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock, squalene can also set off autoimmunity, and is associated with multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, and Parkinson’s. Many British experts are likewise worried about squalene, going so far as to call the upcoming initial trial of the swine flu vaccine a “guinea-pig trial.”
The leaked letters beg doctors to be on the lookout for patients with symptoms of GBS, revealing deep doubts and fears in the UK about the safety of the new vaccine. The letter from the Association of British Neurologists, for instance, informed physicians that the vaccine caused a possible eight-fold increase in GBS during the 1976 U.S. swine flu bout.
The Health Protection Agency letter reminded physicians that in the United States’ 1976 bout, more people died from the vaccination than the flu. Over 500 cases of GBS were diagnosed and resulted in the vaccine being withdrawn after just ten weeks. “I would not have the swine flu jab because of the GBS risk,” said one senior neurologist.
GBS By the Numbers: About 160 million doses of swine flu vaccine will be available this fall. In 1976, about one in 100,000 who got the swine flu vaccine developed GBS.

sickest I ever got with the flu was the year I got a flu shot

no thanks

Same here, was thinking I was going to die. Never had one since (1982) and can count on one hand the times I've called in sick (not including snow days ;)) since.

don't you guys ever read the stuff that guys like me, blue, Ollie etc post on here or what ???

don't take the shot unless you want a pile of mercury burning the tips off your nero receptors in your brain ...

people where helmets to protect their brain ..but will willingly take a shot in the arm that will garantee brain damage ....if you do

take a pic of yourself before and lets see an after pic in about a month

ps might need a tissue to mop up the drewl that will be running out of the corner of your mouth

i think he's talking about the standard flu shot, not the h1n1 flu shot

I"ve had the shot the past 6 or 7 years. We get them free at work because we get so much exposure. No real problems experienced ....yet. So many different strains it's really a Crap shoot if it will help you or not. I'm considering skipping it this year to see how it goes.:beer;

Thanks for posting that! My Uncle died from that crap!! :mad:Just say no!

Get it. You don't want to ruin a good sledding trip with the flu.

I'm with Skinner, headed on a cruise the end of Oct. Gonna get both the regular and the H1N1. It'll be the first time for me getting any shot like that.

According to someone on here you are going to end up looking like your avatar!!!:D

Odds are in your favor you won't end up like my uncle!! ****ing miserable for years with several close to death episodes until it finally happened! think twice, don't be a sheeple.

look on youtube. dr oz. from the oprah show won't give it to his family, and neither will the makers of the h1n1 vaccine!!!!!

Wow. There is some really, really, bad information in this thread. First, the reference to the 1976 vaccine is not particularly relevant, as the consensus within the research community is that the the vaccine was never conclusively linked to G-B syndrome. More importantly, world-wide studies on the modern flu vaccine consistently estimate that the increase in G-B syndrome to be one or two people for every million vaccinated.
Want data? Here you go:

But don't believe me. Do your own homework. Draw your own conclusions.

Yeah, but why would you take medical advice from the CDC, or the World Health Organization, or some other reputable medical organization, when you have all these "knowledgable" Snowesters who clearly are so much more qualified?

Now you are just making my point for me. Let me guess, you don't immunize your kids due to the "risk" of autism either?

apparantly you have never read the Baxters Patent on this crap or done in real research.......I have over 300 hours of research and reading publications regarding this crap .....

oh and the answer is you are right ...we don't immunize thats lame and retarded ..instead we opt for a natural approach ..things like Colloidal Silver , Vitamin D , Grape seed extract, Oil Of Oregano....and PH Balance.....Moose Meat, and Veggies from the Garden

There is nothing wrong with using alternative or natural medicines or remedies. In fact, I believe it's a good thing to supplement traditional methods with non-traditional ones. But to believe that they offer a viable substitute to modern medicine is a bit of a stretch. Maybe we should go back to blood-letting? Let all the bad humors out?

I will say this: Good for you for being concerned for and involved with your kid's health and also for being open-minded with regard to methodologies. And for growing your own food. More people should do the same. I wish I did more of it.

Having said that, lets play your game for a minute, because I believe that you are full of sh*t with regard to your expertise and "research" on the subject. (For the record, what exactly did your "research" entail?)

Yes, I have read Baxter's patent. Relatively thoroughly. In fact, here's the the link to it:
http://docs.google.com/gview?a=v&q=...&gl=us&sig=AFQjCNF1HEqgNDe26G1lrrv0hF6iKun4-A

Please show me data in that document which supports your claim. Anything. In fact, please show me data from ANY reputable organization which supports your claim. I have already provided you with mutliple links to studies done by the CDC and the World Health Organization which say the opposite of what you say. Here's your chance to prove me wrong. I will wait patiently.
