float 30 on smaller framed person...wtf?

We're all built differently. My wife and I are tall, so we don't have the same challenges as someone who is not tall. And, this scenario is why it can be difficult to buy something without being able to see how it fits. The BCA pack situation is somewhat unique with this combination of events:

1) substantially lower cost than competition (generates a lot of interest)
2) BCA had rep for quality stuff (not junk)
3) announced pack long time ago and established a wait list before stores could let one be handled and tried on. (the uncertainty factor)
4) internet retailers making the majority of the places that purchased large quantities from BCA (hard to handle one before taking delivery)

I will say this, after a bunch of practice fires... you want those shoulder straps TIGHT! If they are loose, you have to pull that much harder to deploy the bag, because the straps move when you pull the handle. Because of the principles the bag functions on, the backpack straps are essentially a climbing/safety harness. And, you want those tight in order to work properly.

That's pretty great of SnowBigDeal to make that offer. I do know someone who's farther down on the wait list that wants one asap. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Kaleb,

Let me know if you want to trade it toward anything else or if you just want to return it. We will take it back or whatever you would like to make it easier on you.

I've got a couple offers to trade already, I'd only bug you about it if it was a last resort. We bought it without seeing it, that's our deal not yours, but THANK YOU very much for the offer!

I've had a few jokers offer me $350-4something for it, people are funny.

Anybody that wants it for $535 shipped, give me a call, otherwise I'm only looking for a trade.

Thanks for the offer mike, I really like the smaller packs, so I don't want this one just because of the size, I also just don't like the fit compared to the ABS. I bought it for Abby, and there is no way that is going to work, but that's not much of a surprise. It states a fit range, and although I don't know how you measure a torso I'm sure Abby is too short for it!! I'll find someone to trade with, even if I have to pitch in a few bucks.

I have used my Float 30 three out of the last four days. It is by far the best pack I have ever used for snowmobiling. The fit is so good that it feels like an extension of your body. It does not bounce or swing around at all. It has pockets for the shovel blade, shovel handle, probe, goggles, and two extra pockets. The compression straps keep the contents tight. My ABS pack is just one big chamber and does not fit nearly as well as the Float 30 (The waist buckle on the ABS loosens while riding). I have not had enough time on my Snowpulse Highmark to form an opinion, so far I have been happy with it.
What do other people who have spent time riding with the Float 30 think about the fit? Mike Duffy

I'm about to set off on a week and 1/2 riding trip with mine, excited to see how it feels on the snow. Just putting it on in the living room it feels solid, like it will not move nor buckle on my back and put pressure where I don't want it! But for the record, I'm not a shorter framed person at 5'10". :)

Mike,

I am 5'9" and I love how it fits me. We rode Bachelor for 2 days and it is really comfortable. I wore a ABS back for 2 rides prior (borrowed from a friend) and the BCA back is more comfortable. It is bigger, but that not a bad thing either. To me it is just right.
