Flattops Conditions?

Heading up Sat. Has it gotten pounded like the Mesa? NOAA site shows about the same snowpack.
Also, usually ride out of Coffee Pot or West Elk. Where do you pick up the Transfer trail out of Glenwood? Is it a shorter ride to the good stuff than Coffee Pot?

If i remember right the transfer trail trail head is just west of the resteraunt tram in west glenwood. take a right off highway 6 and next right to parking lot. not much room to turn around a 4 place trailer so get there early. also transfer trail is narrow so avoid comming down when others are going up--it is hard on sleds

Thanks, looked it up. 2nd right going W from the intersection.
Also, is it a shorter trail ride to the deep snow?
Have a small trailer, so no issue turning around, can spin it around by hand if necessary.
Anyone been up there in the last couple days?

On the FT above Silt. Didn't get the snow Mesa did, but should be a few feet of fresh.

Went up through Newcastle on 1/18. Had to get to Meadow Creek Lake before we found anything decent to ride (about 20 miles).

Rode the East side yesterday. Once up on top, about 3-4' base with 2' new, except S facing and real windblown areas. In the trees, add another foot to the base and powder.............over the hood!
Still some landmines and holes/creekbeds not completely drifted over.

First time here and really like the terrain and aspen groves. Busted through 1-3' of pow all day. Still thin overall, but no carnage.

Great time with Dave (Hammertime) and his wife, Deandra. Good friends and great riding pard's. Thanks much to Dwight and Brad for showing us the Buford Flat-tops. It was a hoot guys, you rock! Definitely be back sometime!

Dave testing Dwights 2010 cat. Untouched pow EVERYWHERE...just a tip form uncle Bushy...Hit that chit Denver!

Brad and Dwight, our "MONSTER" guides. Brad and Dwight had a MX accident which left Brad all messed up on the left side. Head on collision that put him in the hospital for a long time and he continues to fight for use of his arm and leg 4 years later. Stem cell therapy and the lot, to the tune of millions of dollars. He he owns an excavation company and runs a track hoe and the rest. Left hand barely grips the bar and left leg pretty messed up and numb, but he showed us what the human spirit can accomplish with enough determination. This guy is my hero! Incredible rider, that most two handed guys would not even touch, and I ain't $hittin ya. I looked on in awe from where I was stuck many times! How the F does this guy handle a sled with one arm so much better than most do with two??? Extrordinary!! Down he'd come to yank me out! 15 pound of pressure would yank his bum arm out of it's socket, but his right arm made up for it. Both, truly tough sob's making the most of life. I give it up for these guys; salt of the earth !

Best shot I got of Brad is his sled. He's earned that Monster decal!

Dwight reflecting...or just looking for his best old buddy.

End of the day and all fouled up with the first other group we'd seen all day....Dwight saw a track and decided to follow it down (been there). It led to a tangled snag of logs in a tight ravine with 80 % sopes on both sides we couldn't pass....but they tried! I knew this group of guys from guiding them on the ear's 3 years ago. Me alone in MC lot on a Monday morn and these guys show up...I say hey! wazzup fellers! Good riders, but in too deep... as were we by then! Best one on a yammi tripple. and he was ripping it up! Oh they sound sweet! We all rode out in the dark. That's Brad humping it up the gulley to help yank somebody out..

IMG_0393Large-1.jpg

As you can see, I'm farthest down the gulley...and hence I win the contest for...well...Honestly I thought these guys had a plan and was just following, when I come upon the blockage and I pointed it up the wall and pinned it in hopes my un-stuck would be aided by gravitah..and it was:D

IMG_0395Large-1.jpg

Vertical it was and didn't need no young bucks to get me out

IMG_0389Large.jpg

If the drive up don't scare ya off...which it will...wellreally mmore the drive down that's freaky..I chained up the cummins + 5000 #'s so as not to careen down that glisade all out of control and glad I did. Met a few late comers that were hell bent on getting to the top in a hurry! Down-hillers must give way and that's that! Personally I think the uphill is the easy part! lol It was worth the drive and I'llbeback to that part of CO :D Oh, I need a powder claw track! really saw where that track was superior.
