thought i would start this thread to see what people have owned and built for themselves in the past to present. i my self started snowmobiling on a 1969 399 olympique paid 150 for it saved up for it with my paper route when i was 15, changed the carb to a mikuni. next sled 250 colt polaris traded my 80 yamaha motorbike for it ended up putting a 340 arctic cat motor in it called it the polcat. next sled was a 300 tnt put a 340 skidoo motor in it . then my next sled was the good old 86 phazer then a 89 phazer those were fun in the day, then went to a 1997 670 summit (now my back up sled), and my main snowmobile now is a 2007 xrs, all my passed sleds ended up selling them.man sledding has come along way i remember spending all day to get to an area making there at the end of the day then going the next day to ride the area we spent all day to get to wow alot of work but always fun especially in the spring on the old sleds. well lets hear what you guys have owned and now own something to read, man i know i am addicted to sledding but i think i am also getting addicted to snowest oh well.

You have progressed faster and farther than we have. Started in 70 with a 71 Elan, then a 70 399 oly in 1975, then a brand new 82 340 Enticer, next in 1989 an 85 Phaser, then a brand new 97 Summit 500. In 1999 I bought my current sled, a 96 670 summit. It can get me into enough trouble so I am sticking with it. I would go where I shouldn't be if I had a modern sled. My wife still rides an 89 Phaser.

97 Indy Trail. Sold it to my brohter for 500 bucks.

Current 99 XCSP 700, undergoing surgery from a trail burner to a mountain sled.

Well, here goes. Started out in 1977 on a little green swinger (not many know what that is, google it). Next was an '71 Yamaha SL292, '74 Polaris Colt SS250, '76 Polaris TX 250, '80 Eltigre 5000, '79 Pantera 5000, '91 Indy Trail (new), '94 Yamaha 600 ST (new), '82 Enticer 300, '92 Indy 500 SKS, '94 Ultra RMK, '95 Mach 1, '01 Summit 800, '02 Pro X 440 (new), '02 Trail Indy RMK, '03 Mtn Cat 600 (new), '04 Rev Summit 800 (new), '04 Summit 600 (new), '05 SummitX 1000 (new), '07 SummitX 800 (new), '08 Rev XPX 800 (new) still have, '09 Nytro MTX MCX turbo (new) still have. And I think that's it. 21 Sleds in 35 years of riding and still going. Can't wait to see sleds of the future. Figure I've got about 25 years of sledding left to go.

in 1974 i bought a 1970 arctic cat 634 puma. chrome side exhaust and a 2.5 gallon fuel tank, (what were they thinking?) i am now on my 19th sled. ;)

Well.... When I was 8 my first sled was an 88 AC El'Tigre 5000, then in 92 got a 91 Polairs Indy 500 Special and rode that for several years... it was a great running sled. Wrecked it a few times, put it back together, stuff like that.

Next sled that I got was a 95 XLT SP. Rode that for like three years then I got a 2002 Polaris Edge X 700. Rode that for another couple years and then I Bought a 1993 Polaris XLT SP as a project sled. Then a couple years later I bought a 2008 Polaris 700 RMK 155' and LOVE IT.

Keep this thread going! cool to hear what and when everyone else started riding!

1968 skidoo double track. Dad hopped it up with a 12 horse engine! My first new was a 1974 elan ss. My God I've spent a sh!t load of money on sleds since then!

I started riding in 2000 on a 1985 skandic and same year got a 1997 ZRT 800, then in 2004 got a 2002 Sum 800 151, then a 2006 800 rev 151, then 2007 Sum rev 151 800R Prototype, then an 2005 MXZX 440 w/ a 600 mod and now I have a 2008 MXZX 600rs.

A friend had one of those old double hog ski-doos with the stock 8 horse. It got around pretty good. I had a 68 sea doo with an 18 horse 320 single. I would swap the engine between my 71 elan and the sea doo summer and winter. The elan was unstoppable with all that power. It was a lot of monkey motion standing on my head in the sea doo adjusting the motor mounts to get the cog belt aligned each time I put the engine back in.

People that never rode those old machines missed all the fun days of snowmobiling.

Here's a funny one for ya...

I'm 51, and on my first sled. 1995 Yamaha 600 V-Max. Second sled I have ever ridden. First time out was over 15 years ago, on my old man's 340 cat. Bought this one to access backcountry for snowboarding. I think it is becoming, very quickly, a separate hobby of its own. Gonna fix this one up some, possibly longtrack it this fall. What a blast it is to get out on a glacier so quick! I almost have to force myself to pull the board off the sled to use it. I think I'm in trouble here...

first sled I owned was a 2003 mxzx rev that was long tracked to a 144, then I bought a 2007 summit x 151, then I bought a 1998 summit x 670 with a 151 then a 1987 ski-doo stratus, and then a 2009 ski-doo Hill Climb edtion.

The 87 is one of the funnest sleds I own, I bought it so I could play around the house on it seems how it don't have much horse power. I am able to cure the need for sledding during the week until we hit the mountains on the weekend. Now that sled is light and carves like a dream!!!

But the 09 runs hard, especially with the Rooster Built clutching, they should come stock with that clutching.

started on an 89 indy 400 riding double with my dad, in 93 moved up to a indy lite 340, then in 97 moved up to a polaris super sport 488 (bad larry of a sled!) then in 2000 i got a 98xc 600, first mod sled long tracked it piped it and some other goodies, then moved up in 05 to an rmk900, then this last year i got an 09 rmk 800 w/ a bd turbo

Been thinking for 20 min trying too remember them all. Ok lets see started in the late 70's on a 73 colt ss340(still have it).... 72 Rupp WT 440(POS),,,, 76 AC 340 Jag(jumped driveways w/it, broke it in half),,,,, 77 Polaris TX 440(ported, that sled ripped in its day),,,,, 80 skidoo citation 250,,,,, 80 TXL 340,,,,,, 92 Indy 440,,,,, 02 Edge X 800,,,,, 02 MXZ 800, ,,,, 01 800 Summit 151, ,,,, 04 summit 827 RKT 144.........Bigger and better to come. :) Looking back GOOD TIMES

90 yamaha snosport, to 91 yamaha phazer, to 02 artic cat z 440, to 03 rev 600 stretched to 136 (got rid of ugly beaver tail) , to 05 summit 800 144 to 05 summit 1000. the snosport is still here and running, best sled ever, hands down.:D

my first 2000 rmk 700 w/136 inch for two years then installed the 144 inch track last year, then it died on me. got to replace the stator.
