First ride in 2 years: Yamaha demo

I actually find the Apex works very well in the powder even with the Maverick under it. You just have to ride it a little differently than a 2 stroke. If you pin the throttle from a stand still they will blow the track out and trench in, but if you ease into it and get moving before you pin it they pop up on the snow very well. The best thing to do is to find someone with a yammi that they have dialed in and set up to work for THEM, then ask what they think of it. Everyone is so brand loyal and narrow minded that its hard to get an honest opinion sometimes and it usually isnt from someone that owns one. 2 stroke or 4 stroke they all have their strengths and weaknesses ride em all talk to people that own the particular machine and then make a decision.

No offense guys but the reason I got out was because of reliability, And from what I have read the last 2 years, Yamaha has about the highest reliability. They may not be perfect, but they seem to have fewer major issues. I am sure that the XP, Dragon, and M's all are awesome handling sleds, I want a gas and go type of sled. And one thing that I thought I missed that really did bother me when I was in the parking lot was the loud obnoxious parking lot racers. That exhaust noise from the 4strokes is so smooth and sweet. I'm not bashing any other brand but I was impressed with the "Heavy" Yamaha's. Can't wait to see everybodys line up for 20ten. That new Polaris rear suspension looks pretty interesting.:beer;:beer;:beer;

Cant we all just be friends:D:D:D!

just my 2 cents here but i think that the arctic cats are fairly gas and go. there probably the most reliable two stroke out there. im not saying that cuz i own a cat its just from experience.

You can't even compare them hogs in the powder with the new two strokes, unless you turbo or mod the snot (fat) out of it. No bash just expierence!!

so how many yammi 4strokes have you owned & i dont care what your freind has.:D:beer;
& as far as motor rebuild goes unless you do head damage they are almost on par for rebuilding.

Plenty of bad info here, i've owned plenty of 4 stroke yammies and plenty of 2strokes as well. The reliabilty of the yammie is hands down superior to any 2 stroke brand, i repeat Hands Down. Other than that weight is the only issue

Ask yourself yourself this fun factor question...Would you rather ride an Apex Turbo or an M8 Turbo for fun factor ?

NEXT

Ask yourself this question regarding relaibilty ? If reliabilty is a high priority than you already know which sled to choose. :D

OT

well sorry guys for having an o7...whats the quote old technology...yep 35 horses more then the 09 m8 and 40 ibs lighter...and in my years selling yammi parts the apex wouldn;t do 3 hundred miles on hyfax and every single one sold had to have wheel kits to stop accelerated wear in certain spots that would wear into the rail while the remainder was ok...oh yea we couldn't keep rails in stock cause they bent so easily..backordered most times as well...oh yea we couldn.t stock enough phazer spindles...other then that i love there sleds...i may seriously consider the 2010...the rumoured 700 two stroke

Yeah, he's right finisher, so if you choose a Yammi, cost you afew sets of hyfax, stick on scratchers, big deal ..the rail thing, small risk IMO. Still a way small liability list if you compare the durability to some of the other brands. But you bet, it ain't gonna win a deep snow climbing challenge.....but the Apex is an awesome sled to ride in the deep snow, great balance, sweet engine, a dream on the trails.

hifax for sure, but that can be solved easily....will take hifax over crankshafts, and lean spots in mid throttle...or other normal maladies...

all sleds have issues and all brands fit certain people, if reliability is top priority...and if less tinkering is top priority then you have but one choice...

as to the comments about 4 strokers not hanging with 2 strokers...well that is good story telling too...99% of it is rider...prior to boost on my Nytro, I could hang with most any sled on my Nytro (granted it was severely light weighted) but had stock track at the time, and could hang with RT's even marked one on my longest pull ever (hate climbing but the bug hit me) and have pulled d8's, M8's, Rev 8's, etc.

but it is all what you want, lots and lots of brand biases...personally dont care about brands...it is my money, I will buy what suits me best...and have switched brands before, and will do so again...

but I will say, that I was really impressed with the 09 M8 of my bro in laws, rides very nicely in the pow...needs more power though...

i just wish that you could change the hyfax with the skid in place...its worth it to cut a window larger to change it in place ...otherwise the labour is an hr...min shop rate..

I have yet to ride a new Nytro, but our Phazer is a fun machine. A little tippy for the woman, but it takes some getting used to. We had an 05 M7 141 that I was hyped up about. Lets just say the fun factor wasn't there for either of us. I had an 97 sx 700 prior to it and was use to the instant throttle response and instant smile from the acceleration and music it made. So I tore it apart and it is a 159 now. After the first ride on the old Yamaha, I decided right then that the A/C was not for me! Man that sled is awesome in my opinion.

Just one and have the hernia/roids to prove it, no more for me!!

In the powder wasn't his only concern, reliability was a deciding factor. No comparison there either between the Yammi and some of the pop can superstructure on some of the 2 strokes. No bash, just experience.

No doubt the 4 stroke yammi I had was a true pull.....er ......turn key and ride sled. with our dry powder I coulden't go anywhere!!!!! Use your head and don't hit stuff, that will solve the damage issue for ya!!

Well if you never hit stuff, that explains a lot. Sounds pretty boring, but safe. Yawn.

Most of my riding would be in the Black Hills, S.D. The trails tend to get pretty hammered out, I try not to touch the trails if I don't have to, love to just dodge trees. One thing I didn't try was the reverse, everyone I talked to said that the reverse is just awesome to have. If my major issues of a Yamaha are hyfax and rails, I can live with that. I'm not really into launching the sled into the stratosphere. Thanks for all of the info. If I do end up with the nitro, I will be back asking for info on which mods and which order to start shedding some weight. Thanks again:beer;:beer;:beer;

you will do well down there for temperature when riding most times otherwise its to cold to ride anyway.....up here we sell a 1000 watt gen set with eash sled for the trappers etc for the cold weather starting to plug them in..equip most of them with inline coolant heaters..they just had dfficulty minus 25 ish...around 30ish no chance with out the gensets...and they have to run them...trap line etc..the vk pro..venture lite etc..
