First ride in 2 years: Yamaha demo

Sold out 2 years ago and have regreted it ever since. I got my first ride Saturday at a Yamaha demo. Rode the Nitro MTX and the Phazer MTX. Both sleds were a blast to ride. The Phazer was just a fun sled, required very little effort, went through the trees with ease. The only thing was it is a little under powered for my 225# riding weight, it just didn't like climbing in the loose sugary snow. Now the Nitro, it was awesome in powder. It required a little more rider input, but was really easy to ride. The power delivery was smooth, the tourqe was impressive, at mid throtle it would pull hard you had to be very aware of where you are pointed. I could not notice any excessive
weight up front. The sled would just respond to and go where you wanted. I just can't say anything bad about about the Yamaha's just remarkable sleds. If you have never ridden one you can't say anything bad about these sleds. AWESOME

No offense guys but the reason I got out was because of reliability, And from what I have read the last 2 years, Yamaha has about the highest reliability. They may not be perfect, but they seem to have fewer major issues. I am sure that the XP, Dragon, and M's all are awesome handling sleds, I want a gas and go type of sled. And one thing that I thought I missed that really did bother me when I was in the parking lot was the loud obnoxious parking lot racers. That exhaust noise from the 4strokes is so smooth and sweet. I'm not bashing any other brand but I was impressed with the "Heavy" Yamaha's. Can't wait to see everybodys line up for 20ten. That new Polaris rear suspension looks pretty interesting.:beer;:beer;:beer;

Cant we all just be friends:D:D:D!

No just a guy that wants to get back into a great winter sport. I tried to even get back into snowboarding with my son, wasn't doing it for me, it just made me want to get back into sleding really, really,really bad. Man I miss this
sport!!:beer;:beer;:beer;awe make it a 6 pack:beer;:beer;:beer;

well hope you can change your oil..up here they were charging 300 bucks to change oil and first valve adjustment,,,granted the valve were good for a long time afterwards...any way a person can rebuild a two stoke four times to every one of a four stroke in cost so i think they nare all about even..the wieght of the four strokes kill the suspension so lots of upkeep there...but yep yammis are ok..if someone gave me one i would let my wife ride it

First oil change after 1000k, then every 3000 you need 3-4 litres of oil and a filter. Even if you pay a dealer to do the work it's still cheaper than the money spent on 2 stroke oil. Most sledders do there own so it's pretty cheap. First valve adjustment isn't due till about 25000km, or was it 40,000? Turbo guys like to check them at around 10,000k. The 2 strokes are fun rides but not in the same league for reliability, especially boosted :rolleyes:

agree 100%

I have been $trapped and "nearly" out of this sport for the last couple years due to a scattered 670/building a house/med. bills and agree 100% with EVERYONE responding:D
My dad has a new xp WITH warrenty(so good so far), buds have blown up a poo 700(rod out the side...), a m1000( cold sieze) and even tho they go thru the snow alot better, after a few years off a Yammy is a breath of fresh air for me:face-icon-small-coo I like the way these new 4-strokes are going; I can't really afford to buy belts every ride AND $44 a gallon 2stroke oil. Give me a little heavier peace of mind anyday!!
And let me ride an XP every once in a while in the deep pow just to know how good it CAN be:eek:

You really need to know WTH you are talking about before making stupid comments. It's OK if you don't like Yamaha's or any other sled, but at least know what you are talking about.

I just put a Challenger Extreme on the Apex. Yesterday was the first ride on it and wow what a difference, I could only describe it as like the sled had about 30 more HP. That stock Maverick really held the sled back, one of my buddies I was with rides an XP and couldnt believe the difference. The other guy we were riding with rides an M7 and after he rode the Apex he said it totally changed his opinion of the 4 strokes. Moral of the story is with proper setup these things work very well.

are you a Yammy sales rep?

Dont have to be, that is the same set of reasons that made me leave Doo...wanted more reliability and wanted quieter sled...it is the same reason dirt bikes have all gone this path...sleds will too...

first valve adjustment is at 20,000 Miles...yes 20k miles....so likely, not many have had to get one yet...anyone who is paying $300 for an oil change....well they just deserve the bill, will leave it at that...

as to the rebuild fleece argument...no problem, keep telling yourself that...

The guy came on to share his thoughts, and this turned into a brand bash...

Welcome back!!! you will enjoy sledding mroe than ever!!! the options and choices all cater to very distinct groups/interests, and the Mountain segment is being focused on more than ever!!!

Here is a pic o my Yammie...

MEAT - Same kind of results with the Powderclaw and Gen II's - big difference, feels like a different sled.

What a stupid statement. Got a little bone to pick there bud. You should at least step up to an 09 Cat before you start banging on Yammi's. You're short a bit of New tech there yourself. LOL.

You can't even compare them hogs in the powder with the new two strokes, unless you turbo or mod the snot (fat) out of it. No bash just expierence!!

I here the Powerclaw is working awesome I just wasnt sure that I wanted to go back to 15 wide. I knew the Extreme is a proven performer and being 16 wide and a little taller lug it moves the snow like crazy. I here the GENII are great, I wish we had enough powder right now to worry about floatation.:(

In the powder wasn't his only concern, reliability was a deciding factor. No comparison there either between the Yammi and some of the pop can superstructure on some of the 2 strokes. No bash, just experience.
