FedEx is the worst

Bought a helmet and boots from a dealer in the States and two weeks after it arrived I get a letter from FedEx stating I owe them $101.02!

These brokerage fees are absolutely ridiculous, and it kills me to fork over $100 of my hard-earned money to some bogus money grab. This fee alone is a quarter of what I paid for the entire order. How does USPS not charge these fees like FedEx and UPS? Is it because FedEx and UPS are private businesses and can do whatever they want?

Anybody ever gotten these fees waived? If so what did you have to say?

If your order comes across the border as a "gift" there is no brokerage charges.

You're dead wrong.

FedEx or UPS doesn't care if it's market food for starving children. They get their inflated brokerage fees. Customs may, or may not ding you.

Use USPS/Canada Post for cross border stuff only. They have a maximum charge of $5 per shipment on brokerage.

I only use USPS. Make sure they put "Repacement Parts Made In USA" instead of accesories. There is no duty on replacement parts made in USA. I ordered a clutch spring and weights for my quad and they came UPS. I was charged $98.00 in brokerage fees on a $35.00 order!

Ridiculous! How are those charges even legal!?

It is your government charging these fees. Fed-Ex pays it back to them.

Bullchit.

It's UPS and FedEx charging that for their OWN brokerage service. Same thing as when I bring a piece of equipment into the country and use Percy H. Davis Customs Brokers. The tax portion of that (duty & GST) is broken out of that and listed separately. That goes to the feds.

When I worked at Gateway computers in Sales, the company charged something like $45 to ship the computer, $60 for the monitor and $25 for printers for shipping UPS. But the funny thing was I could go down to UPS and ship a monitor anywhere for about $20. (at the time). Think maybe the sellers are making a bit of cash off the shipping maybe? Hmmm....

If you have the US seller mark the USPS customs card with the products as being a gift there is no charge when you pick it up at the post office. At least this has been my experience!

I've shipped hundreds of small items to Canada through USPS marked as a gift and never heard of any high customs fees. Blows my mind why people use UPS or Fedex for smaller items. USPS is cheaper, faster, and more reliable in all my experiences. Heck there's even a first class weight thats cheaper to ship to Canada than it is to ship within the states. GO FIGURE!

I have, I didn't understand why they sent me a bill and thought that they were trying to recharge me for the taxes which I paid when I picked the item up. I was flipping saying I already paid them since I actually thought I did, after 5 minutes of *****ing he waived the charges lol;)

fedex is not making up those charges...It is a customs thing. Like was said, it's all in how it is worded on the customs forms.

A freind sent a box from Florida to our daughter in Brisbane, AU. The Fed-Ex man stop in during the day and not finding anyone at home sent the package back to Florida. No message, no second attempt to deliver.
