Ethanol in Washington

Been reading and seeing on the news that Washington fuel stations are now required to start using this crap. Have heard this may cause issues with motors (Dragons in particular). Just an FYI and/or would like some first hand info if you have any.

keep your sled tanks full....to prevent absorption of water from humid air

Fuel separation at small volume gas stations is a problem

almost every station has been blending fuel for a looooong time. take a look on the pump next time you fill up. chances are it will say blended wiht 10% ethonal. not everything you see or read on the news is true haha

Been like this for years with the fuel--Nothing new--Most of the country has this--I do not think it will affect your Dragon--LOL

And as for the news--as normal--they are slow and are only half right with anything the say!!

It is true though about the water getting absorbed into the fuel. For some reason, water and ethanol like each other, yes especially in a humid climate, cheers...

Guess I better buy another barrel of trick fuel then....WTF. I doubt I have been running ethanol for a few years though. I have been paying attention at the pumps but I guess the stations I go to are not posting the Ethanol warning/info for me to read.

Like H2O said, you have been running ethanol for a few years now without knowing it.

This isn't exactly correct. Beginning 11-2008, our great governor, GREGWHORE mandated that ALL stations begin selling the 10% ethanol. So before the Nov 08 ethanol mandate, it would've depnded on WHERE you purchased your fuel whether or not you were running ethanol of 10% or not.

So if you're a cheaper gas is my gas kind of person, ie Arco, Union 76 or cut rate station, then you've been running the same crap for years. These companies have been using ethanol for years because ethanol allows a less octane become a better octane. This is why Arco and Union 76 have been cheaper than Shell and Chevron over the years.

It's only been since 11-08 that Shell and Chevron have been adding 10 % ethanol to their fuel. Before this, their winter blend had very little.

Thanks GREGWHORE. And if you read the bill, it was only about helping out the corn farmer and nothing to do with cleaner air or any of those other left wing things.

so what are the side effects of running ethanol mix gas

IF (big IF) you get a true 10% ethanol mix, the newer sleds should run fine.

PROBLEMS:
1) sometimes the fuel at the stations separate into 3 levels... a watery/high alcohol mix....a high alcohol/gas mix......and a high gas/low alcohol mix ... hope you aren't the unlucky person to get the bad mixes

2)Leave your sled tank partially full in western WA...you will have an air/gas fume mix above the fuel level.....liquid water is absorbed right out of the air in that mix into the methanol.

3)Did the station really get a 10% ethanol mix.....or was it 20%

4) Dial-a-octane.....you paid for 91 octane, but you get something less...or much much less (~75 octane in CA has been found-can you say kabooom!)

5) (add here)

If you live in a emmision testing area--You have had ethanol in your fuel for years during the winter months--All brands. Yes our govenor may have mandated that all stations in the state do this now--but the questions was--will it hurt my sled--Answer is NO.
