Emergency/Breakdown kits in Snowy Range w/GPS locations

Thread Rating
5.00 star(s)
I found some more BPR9ES NJK plugs to add to the kits.
I added some jerkey and spam too.
Anyone wants to send me a space blanket or two that would be great. I only put one in each kit for now. Figured with two tarps you could at least make a V shaped shelter and stay out of the wind some. If I have time I'll cut a few branches and make a small stash of firewood at each site as well.

Anyone wants to go with and help put them out let me know. My kids are off school on Wed. and will be coming with. They are 9 & 12 and will be riding their old Phazer 2's that I put 136" tracks on. With that being said I won't be able to get too far off the trails. Hope to place at least two out on Wed. and saving the other two when I can go out with some more experienced riders into the backcountry a bit further off the trails.

Awesome Idea Chuck, Could very well save someones Life. I'll give you a call and try to hook up as we will be out in the Snowies in 19 days, not like I'm counting or anything LOL

Wow what a fantastic idea!!! Had out of area people follow our tracks and we almost spent the night, they DID! Wish we could have at least left them something like this!
Chuck you should put this in the general area also! Definite sticky!!

Finally made it out with the kids and put out two of the survival kits.

The first one is right behind this sign off trail Q & T intersection at coord. N41deg13.113', W 106deg16.458'

The second kit is behind the outhouse in a clump of pines about 20 yds behind and to the right side when looking at the doors from the front. This is located at the corner of trails "O", "P", and "K".

Man what an awesome idea. Its great to see that there are good people in the world still.

I'll be riding in the Snowy's in March hope I don't have to use anything, we try to plan ahead and do carry safety stuff but as we all know we can't plan for everything.

If God forbid we would have to use anything you'll be getting a package or a paypal payment!

Thanks a million for thinking of others!

Survival gear Geocaching. Great idea and an even better gesture to your fellow riders. If you haven't already (but it sounds like you did), I think it would be a good idea to include a note explaining why the box and fuel is there so someone doesn't accidentally stumble upon them and take them thinking they found gold. If someone takes them at that point, they are a d-bag!

I don't usually ride the area but I am going to put the coordinates in my gps for safety sakes. It will be interesting to see if they are still there in the spring?

Good Karma!

This is totally amazing!! Thank you so much for doing such a thought ful act being unemployeed!! I am thinking that maybe this will be something we can do next season. What a great idea!!! I don't ride the snowies, but if I ever do will make sure I have these areas marked on a gps!!!

Thanks for looking out for folks that dont find a need to wear a pack with proper supplies to stay the night out there. If I can help you contribute to your great idea pm me and ill do what you need.

Great idea
I agree that the 7 fools area would be a god locaiton. We have had 3 searches this season where the subjects ended up in 7 fools.

We also seem to have searches that center on the NO trail close to where the roller coaster conects to the NO trail.

Be safe out there

This has got to be one of the best things I've ever read on this 4M.

Thumbs up rev*baron! This is such a wonderful thing to do, such thought and caring. You are a truly good person! :)

one thing I would recommend for these kits..a map with the current position marked as well as the way out..up here I have found so many people lost and headed exactly the wrong way to get to safety..they have no clue where they are and where they need to go....very nice thing you have done chuck...great karma....:beer;:beer;

Well after a long trial of trying to come up French Creek from the bottom yesterday I gave up and finally made it out of the bottom to try again another day. On the way up the hill I did notice some tracks heading in the right direction so I think I know the way in now from the bottom. Ran out of time and decided to place the 3rd kit for now at the corner of Trails U and N.

On the north side of trail U (Hwy 130) right where you round the corner to N look for a small pine marked with an orange flag. Behind it on the hillside are two large pines which are also marked with orange tape. The kit is buried right between the two trees.

The coordinates are: N 41 deg 19.807' W 106 deg 21.546'

Ok here is where I ended up yesterday on #236. You can see I went to the left which will take you to the hiking trail that goes up the hill. I went back and up the main road till the end. Saw some tracks going down the pretty steep hill to the left. Followed them down through the plantation and ended up at the creek at the bottom. I could see tracks on the opposite hillside but coudn't find a way through past the creek. Got stuck trying to pull my sled up the hill so unhooked and made that little trip up a hiking trail. Decided to pass on that so unpacked half my load and made a few trips back up to the top to get everything back up the hill.

My friend that came with saw the tracks about half way up the hill heading to the north on the old road. I think what happened was that when they last logged off the hillside they covered up the old road that goes up and into the area where we were trying to get to.

I was pretty tired after all that ( I have a cold and didn't feel well) so decided to come back another day to find and mark that trail through over the next hill and into the area of French Creek that everyone rides into from the top.

Off of Libby Flats you could see where everyone was dropping into the creek and making some high marks on the hills.

Here's some maps to help you out if you do end up in there.

Here is a poor picture (camera broke) taken by my phone of the location of last box off 130 and trail N. Should be out this weekend putting out the last box.

Right in between those big pines behind my sled. The 2nd pic is what it looks like when looking SW back at the road.

Thank you very much for your work, as someone coming to the Snowies for the first time (Feb 13-19) it is nice to see a fellow sledder helping out.
