The reason that no previous AC did this is because it wasn’t possible until the oil pump was controlled by the ECU and not just throttle position. I don’t know if the 600 did it, but maybe the real reason is to force people to properly break in their belt

Th cat dealer i work with talked with one of the cat engineers on the eco refresh. They were told it "cleans up the bottom end". Just above engagement around 4200rpm they lean it out a bit.
