EBC info

added some better ALT CMP info

So after using it a few times now, I thought I would share some info on it. Seems people have been looking for something like this, so I'll give it a shot.

first off the calibrating is easy to do. press the button on the ebc until you get to the altitude screen then hold it down for five seconds and your into the "pt cal" screen, put your fuel control box on the stats screen and watch your boost. as you move the cal number up it will start reading boost at idle on the fuel control box, so you want to adjust the cal number low enough that the control box reads 0.0 or slightly in the negative like -0.7 then your done with calibrating.

next your boost control screen (base DC) is the first screen in the menu of the ebc and should be reading 000 from boondockers. take your first ride with it set on 000, your boost will be rite around 7psi with it at a 000 depending on how you installed the wastegate arm. I found that a number of 007 raised boost 1 psi over the base amount. so you'll have to play with it to get it where you want.

push to pass feature is straight forward, set a low number and keep try raising it and try'n it till you get it where you want.

the "alt cmp" is again a lot of trial and error. I'm still setting this one but it does what they say it will do. once you set it at the proper DC number it does raise boost as you go up and lower it as you go down in elevation, how much depends on what number you put in. it will only go as low as your lowest boost you can obtain. ALT CMP should be set at your truck, it records your current air pressure when set, that way it knows when your going up or down from where you set it at and can make the DC adjustments. so set your boost at the truck then use the "alt cmp" to keep you at your peak power. if when you go up higher you need more boost don't change the alt cmp change the base DC number, if you reset the alt cmp at a higher elevation it will recapture the air pressure and you will be starting over from scratch. just remember to lower the Base DC before you head back down. Once you get this set you want need to touch the EBC again.

this unit works very nice, but does need your user input. not really what I thought it was suppose to be but it does the job they said it would, it just requires more input from me than I would have thought.

I'm not a pro but if someones got questions I can try and help or if I made a mistake somewhere I'll correct it.

Good info.

So honestly, other than altitude compensation, do you think it is worth it? The whole trial and error thing doesn't really seem worth it to me (on my sled) over a simple manual controller that you have to set manually too.

I have both and still deciding which one to run.

well it does have some nice features and I do like it, but I have to say I could do without it. on a race gas kit sure you have a huge range of boost you can adjust for, but in my case with the pump gas I will only be able to go up to around 8 psi anyways. I think the push to pass is cool but I wont be able to use it. the built in boost gauge is nice and i like knowing my altitude, but not really that important seeing how the control box displays boost and lots of sleds show altitude now. I really do like it more than a normal boost control, and if I were you I'd put the ebc on IMO .

I have heard that the ALT COMP should be set around 7 as a starting point. It works as a ramp up/down based on your elevation rise/fall, so if you have it set at 30 for instance, it will be a very steep ramp and continue to follow that ramp as you climb in elevation potentially overboosting.

Hmmm, a manual boost controller with remote knob sounds a heck of lot simpler and easier to me.

A note on the EBC controller, my sled was idling so low that the EBC would not work correctly when making changes. I thought the button was bad but as soon as we increased rpm a little worked fine. Took us about an hour to figure it out the problem.
