Each case is different. When bleeding to death and fluid loss is an issue it is bad.

LONDON — Hospital authorities say they have treated a 3-year-old child for alcoholism.
The Heart of England NHS Trust that runs three hospitals in central England confirmed Tuesday that a child had been treated by medical staff after being given alcohol regularly. The trust revealed the data in response to a request made under the Freedom of Information Act by a newspaper, which requested data on underage drinking.
The case highlights a new low in Britain's struggle to control a binge-drinking culture which has seen alcohol-related deaths double in the past two decades.
Chris Sorek of the lobby group, Drinkaware, says Tuesday that any alcohol could disrupt a child's development.
yah, that is fine and dandy, but it is just some lobbyiest saying something based on what? no much proof.
correct, it doesn't mean that it is going to be harmful either though.. right?"Shades of gray" doesn't mean it's ok or not going to be harmful.
"Inconclusive" doesn't show if it IS or IS NOT harmful. It doesn't support evidence EITHER WAY.
One thing is clear, if you are pregnant and take a drink -- a glass of wine, a beer or a cocktail -- your unborn child takes the same drink. Whatever you eat or drink while pregnant goes directly through your bloodstream into the placenta.
If you're having a drink, baby is too.
In addition, pregnant women who drink as little as once a day are more likely to give birth to a low birth weight baby (under 5 pounds, 8 ounces) and their babies' are at increased risk of having problems with learning, speech and language, attention span, and hyperactivity later in life. Women who drink alcohol once a week during pregnancy are more likely to have children who have aggressive and delinquent behavior later in life, compared to non-drinkers.
Is it okay to drink when pregnant?
No. There is no safe level of alcohol use during pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant should refrain from drinking alcohol.16 Several conditions, including Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders have been linked to alcohol use during pregnancy. Women of child bearing age should also avoid binge drinking to reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy and potential exposure of a developing fetus to alcohol.
Because studies are always correct?? Kind of like Global Warming studies?? And there is nothing in the links I posted??
It really doesn't matter to me. I DID the right thing for my children. Others can make their own choices. It's the innocent children I feel for, they don't have a choice.
A 2008 Danish study found that women who binge drink three or more times during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy had a 56 percent greater risk for stillbirth than women who did not binge drink
A study in 2006 by the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology concluded that there was no convincing evidence of adverse effects of prenatal alcohol exposure at low to moderate levels, where moderate was defined as 10.5 units per week (but, the study author Dr Robert Fraser reminds us, not at one sitting, obviously).
"Alcohol is mainly metabolised by the liver, and only what's left will be met by the placenta. The amount that could reach the foetus in a glass of beer or a glass of wine is negligible." -Dr Eric Jauniaux (been studying tranfer through the placenta for over 20 years)
As far as we know, drinking lightly during pregnancy does not have adverse consequences. The systematic studies and meta-analyses we looked at suggest that drinking fewer than three small drinks per week is a safe level of consumption for pregnant women. This result seems robust in that the literature reviews considered hundreds of articles.

In the face of all this lack of proof that moderate amounts of alcohol is harmful, I wonder what else pregnant women will be asked to avoid. Women in France are asked not to eat any raw vegetables while pregnant -- no salads for them. Did you know too much sugar during pregnancy is harmful? Can you imagine the day when we're asked to avoid ANY sugar during pregnancy? And pregnant women are exposed to twice the amount of radiation from medical scans as they were a decade ago. The risk of radiation on the fetus is well documented, actually. Yet nobody questions the scanning "procedures" but there'll be hell to pay if a pregnant lady asks for a soy latte at Starbucks.
