Don't ride in the wildrness!!

Sorry Dogmeat, here is evidence of the damage caused by sleds. This is Cottonwood Pass area last week. High use area! Notice how the willows are standing straight up, the non-existance of existing trails. Beer cans and cigarette butts all over the place. :D

I live in the mountains and just do not get the beer cans and trash in places that people love to go to. If you like it so much, that you would travel 2 hours to get there why would you through your trash on the ground. I spend a lot of time on the trails hiking, jeeping and picking up trash. I am not a tree huger by any means but I also do not want to see my favorite places closed down do to idiots leaving there crap behind. Those that are jeepers or dirt bikers know that areas are being closed every day; there are so many places that even five years ago, I could drive my jeeps to that are closed for good now. If you pack it in pack it out!

The HORROR!!!

Thanks for posting pics of the absolute decimation of the local ecosystem! :D

See, all you naysayers that don't understad the destruction you cause... just LOOK at that, I hope you understand now!!!

wilderness is ****ing retarded in the winter

Ditto to what V E 700 said! I never understand why people can't pick up their sheat

People seem to think that by dropping your trash into snow it magically disappears, and it does actually....until spring. Every time I went riding this spring I had empty beer cans nearly overflowing from my pack that I picked up at popular areas/points of interest. I've been meaning to go back up to the same areas this summer and clean up the ones I've missed.

blargh

see, i really wonder how this wilderness / roadless bs is going to pan out in the end.

there are already many areas getting hit hard...

so, as snowmobilers, do we keep backing down and drive further n further n further to keep doing what we love?

soon or later people will refuse to drive to the otherside of the country to ride...and then...

i know this is already going on in many areas...you can't keep kicking people down before they either dgaf...or kick back in what way they know how.

most of us are not, nor want to be politicions and lawyers and fight in courts and play this stupid environmental game w/ these zealots.

we want to go out, have some fun for a weekend, and can't even "legally" do that anymore. so, like other "fun things" that are illegal...people will just do it anyway. some, only because its illegal, some, because we just wanna have a good time for 5 months of a year.

i know, its a lot to ask for humans to get along...and i find it really quite odd that these hippy greeny peace loving environmental nazis don't even realize the war they are creating themselves..

i'm still tryin to decide where I stand, weather i'll just ride wilderness as i see fit, or if i'll just have to drop out of the sport and be miserable for 12 months of the year instead of 6...

maybe just take up a drug habit, thats better for america, keep all of its people intoxicated and immobalized ! easier to handle and control. genious...

ok...took it a bit far...but some things are so far beyond broken now days..its simply a disapointment.

We took some folks out last winter (From Texas) and we stopped for luch. They smoked their cigs and threw the butts on the ground.

Ummmm, excuse me, could you please not throw garbage in our beautiful backyard! (Exact Quote from me).

Back to wilderness, enough is enough. By my pic's, as you all know, We do not damage the eco-system. Unless we grind a hippie into the snow, that will leave a grease spot that will last for generations.

I even looked at the tips of the willows, no broken branches. And this is Cottonwood Pass right south of the bowl.

I understand where you are coming from. To me its a matter of control, I dont think becuse they dont like what we do they should have the abillity to keep us from doing it. I dont think you going to see me burning through wilderness, fact is if they keep taking it away, just may not have a choice !

That looks horrible, man I am sorry about the willow, isnt that where we all god stuck ? :D

I would be willing to bet avalanches do more damage every year to the landscape then ALL of the sleds combined ! I know we should outlaw snow we could save some trees !

It makes me wonder where these people think they came from.

J-Fly,

These guys are trying to warn others so they don't get slapped with a huge fine. Show some love man. You must be having an angry week. Go to your closest neighbors house and get a hug.

Doo,

As J-Fly has stated, he has screws in his head from an accident. And at 32, and from the Carolinas, his knees hurt from snowboarding all of these years. Poor fellow.

I guess I should look into the pain treatment alternatives. But, I have only been skiing for 44 years now and don't know how many bones or internal organs that I have messed up. I do remember splitting my kidney in half though. Now that frickin hurt. I'm going to try and stand up now. Snap crackle pop. ouchhhhhh. where do they sell that hippie rope?

What I don't understand is the horse thing. Anybody who has ever been in the backcountry knows that cloven or shod livestock can decimate a trail more so than a dirtbike and such. I have hiked around RE/Buff many times during hunting season and have seen the damage first hand caused by domestic animals. The sheep that the USFS allows to graze on open range can completely destroy an open meadow in two days, cattle and horses can punch out a trail with their heavy cloven feet and you have to wait months for the trail to smooth out again. Large herds of cattle allowed to graze in open range can contaminate a creek, stream or river just by defecating nearby. That has been proven.

I believe that it isn't a Wilderness thing but more than likely a hatred of motorized use caused by the constant whining of the Greenies. These people have very deep pockets as they are financed by the uber-wealthy. The insecure rich people seem to think that donating to PETA, Greenpeace and other "Green" groups is going to make them "good" philanthropic people. Meanwhile they fly off into the blue in a private jet to their weekend getaway, get into their 4mpg SUV and drive off to a 10,000 S.F. mansion and proceed to leave the lights on all day and night. I wish that off-road motorized enthusiasts had the same financial support of these wealthy people but we don't and probably never will. Just my 2 cents.

Right on the money here!!! Horses and livestock are the absolute worst thing on the trails. Sh@! and hooves trash the trail! Lights on in the mansion, heated driveways. Bunch of A-holes!!!

Ducking ropes at a resort and entering a wilderness area are two different things.

Earning your turns applies to sledders also. Tearing up the easy powder in the wilderness areas is just as lazy as ducking a rope. There are plenty of areas to seek out powder, but once the freaks use amo like your statement against us, you will be back to the resorts 'cuz thats all that will be left.

It's not that sledders are against riding in WA, just that we do not want to lose anymore.

Unreal that you even posted a statement like that in a public forum.

I'm going to be reasonable. I will not ride a motor vehicle in a wilderness area without there being at least 3' of snow on the ground.

Like I said, I will be reasonable ... You get enough people on dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, jeeps and pickup trucks especially .... it WILL tear up the land. I don't think there is any denying that.

Sleds on the other hand? There is no traceable evidence they were ever even there.

With that said, I also agree that we have enough wilderness in this country and don't need anymore.
Couldn't agree more.

I have nothing against grazing rights and horsebacking. I just think that its funny that some of the things that do the most damage or at least 99% of the damage, will still be able to do damage. It just goes to show that its not about saving the land, its about a war between motorheads and hippies.

Hey, I think I hit a stump in that meadow a few years ago...

We went to the mountains this weekend for 4 days and just do not get it. We had a beautiful campground, river, fish you could see. and decided to check out some other campgrounds around us. We went into a wonderful camp ground and what did we see? beer cans and trash in places that people love to go to and camp. If they left this like that can you think of how there house’s and yards must look. We couldn’t believe what we was seeing. we was up doing a little ATV-ing If you like camping so much, that you would travel many hours and spend many days there, and then why would you throw your trash on the ground. You can’t believe what we saw beer pop, cans. Papers, plastic bags hanging from trees halve full of all kinds of garbage. They had 2 big buckets of human poo that was left behind tree’s, I spend a lot of time on the campgrounds fishing snowmobiling trails, Jeeping we are not tree huggers by any means! We just enjoy the outdoors. but I also do not want to see my favorite places closed down due to a bunch of idiots leaving there crap behind. Those that are jeepers or dirt bikers ATV’s snowmobilers know that areas are being closed every day; there are so many places that even 3 years ago, I could drive anywhere and do anything that are closed for good now. If you pack it in please pack it out! could you please not throw garbage in our beautiful land’s and lake’s, I would like my Grand children to see it someday. And please stay on the Trail’s. but the wilderness thing is just plain stupid the way it is managed. Any way!!!!

Well $.*.!.*:

Cross post from MTBR mountain bike forum. Sinse Kaleb cross posted mine from the Buzz, I had to do this one as well.

More Wilderness area proposed

really funny.

As stated in these threads, It's up to us, the mountain bikers and the kayakers would love for the proposals to pass. I don't ^%#$^%$ get it. The bikers stand to loose as much as us.

We need to step up our game. The outdoor ethic of the motorized user groups is being called into question.

Please write Salazar at dept of interior, Garfield, Eagle, Summit, Pitkin, Gunnison CO County commissioners. Also local politicians if you live in CO.

Please go to White River Forest Alliance for more info.

Also check out the other side: Hidden Gems Wilderness Proposal - ps- You can use their site to send a message to Senators/ Congressmen and County Governments. You must edit the text to match your views.

Please take notice or I WILL LOOSE MY LOCAL RIDING AREA. and you might to
