Don't ride in the wildrness!!

Got this in an e-mail from my buddy this morning.

"The trip to the flat tops was Great!!! It is a very nice area and there are tons of "jeep roads" to ride. It did get pretty damm cold over night tho...Sunday morning we woke to frost on the ground. I did have one mis-hap the led to my shelling out $525.00 to the US forest service for, as the ticket says....."possession of a motor vehicle in a wilderness area" Bad deal but I got lost trying to find a trial that was on my map but had been completely overgrown and by the time I thought to turn around the three rangers on horseback were caught up to the boys and I. We ended up having to push our bikes for 2 miles and then they let us ride the other 4 miles out and we had to walk back 1/4 mile and cover our tracks. It could have been a LOT worse then it was, but I will dammed sure get a better map next time. Over all it was a great time and we will go back.

OUCH!!!

if they're gonna have lands so f*ing precious, then mark them better
but i digress, responsibility is not a burden puke liberals must bear

did they have the required diaper on their horses? or just on the rangers?

.

Just wait with what they have proposed to hit the legislature in October is going to be where we won't be riding anything here in Glenwood Springs clean to Aspen...:(

I'm going to be reasonable.

Like I said, I will be reasonable ... You get enough people on dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, jeeps and pickup trucks especially .... it WILL tear up the land. I don't think there is any denying that.

Sleds on the other hand? There is no traceable evidence they were ever even there.

With that said, I also agree that we have enough wilderness in this country and don't need anymore.

But what about all those endangered animals ?

You know they mate about 3 inches under the snow, in the middle of winter.

All the Elk............

The pristine grass that grows where the snow blows..........come on man get with it !

What I don't understand is the horse thing. Anybody who has ever been in the backcountry knows that cloven or shod livestock can decimate a trail more so than a dirtbike and such. I have hiked around RE/Buff many times during hunting season and have seen the damage first hand caused by domestic animals. The sheep that the USFS allows to graze on open range can completely destroy an open meadow in two days, cattle and horses can punch out a trail with their heavy cloven feet and you have to wait months for the trail to smooth out again. Large herds of cattle allowed to graze in open range can contaminate a creek, stream or river just by defecating nearby. That has been proven.

I believe that it isn't a Wilderness thing but more than likely a hatred of motorized use caused by the constant whining of the Greenies. These people have very deep pockets as they are financed by the uber-wealthy. The insecure rich people seem to think that donating to PETA, Greenpeace and other "Green" groups is going to make them "good" philanthropic people. Meanwhile they fly off into the blue in a private jet to their weekend getaway, get into their 4mpg SUV and drive off to a 10,000 S.F. mansion and proceed to leave the lights on all day and night. I wish that off-road motorized enthusiasts had the same financial support of these wealthy people but we don't and probably never will. Just my 2 cents.

I'm going to be reasonable. I will not ride a motor vehicle in a wilderness area without there being at least 3' of snow on the ground.

Sorry Dogmeat, here is evidence of the damage caused by sleds. This is Cottonwood Pass area last week. High use area! Notice how the willows are standing straight up, the non-existance of existing trails. Beer cans and cigarette butts all over the place. :D
