Does anyone think the 155 is a little long?

I have just lined up employment that is going to pay me enough to go out and buy the new sled i want :face-icon-small-hap im a very happy man at the moment, let alone my current job just moved me up a position and im making way more, so outside of the world falling to crap, im going to be on a new sled once the flakes fly.

My current sled is a 04 800 144 RMK, i have realy grown to love the short sled, by lake tahoe standards its considered way to small but i can man handle this machine to get it near anywhere, i love the shorter track even on deep pow days outside of the fact it realy does not have enough power, the size to me is perfect, when i look at the 155 pro chassie it looks like a semi trailer driving through the snow compared to my old sled, i love tight tree riding, do any of you feel the 155 is a little long to go with the new pro chassie? i would hate to buy a non pro chassie even though they are offering them in the smaller size i want.
how does the OAL compare? i know the new 155 is realy not all that much longer than my 144, do you guys still feel like you can fit this sled anywhere with its size? i dont want to give up my tight tree riding.
im ready to push the button, i just need some direction.
thanks guys

155 is perfect IMO

the fact you are coming off an edge chassis to the pro chassis, you will be able put a pro in places you never thought you could put your edge. The PRO chassis is that good. If you think you can man handle an edge chassis, the mount of effort you will have to exert to do the same exact things on a PRO will not even be comparable. Look at Burandt. He is easily one of the best if not the best tree rider on the planet and he rides the 155 and can do stuff i can only dream of.

IMO you will have no problems at all with a 155 pro

I have been riding a edge chassis 159 for the last 3 years and can go anywhere it's tight that my buddies on 144 and 151 sleds can go. I'm the guy that has to go up the steep and deep to help them out when they get stuck. I spent 3 hours on a PRO 155 at the Polaris demo event and feel that a 155 on this chassis will go anywhere I need to go. I didn't want the extra weight of a 163. Unless you plan to put a turbo on the sled at a later time, a 155 is all you will ever need.

I used to own an 07 rmk 600 144" and then an 09 assault 146". I do a lot of trail riding here because I can leave from my driveway and be on the trail in a minute. I thought the same thing before going to a 155" but there is no way I would ever go back. I freakin love this thing, it goes anywhere ( a lot more places than my other two sleds would go) and when it does get stuck, its only simple to get it out. This thing is by far the best handling sled I have ever ridden. It practically throws itself around. It handles pretty good on the trail but the scratchers need to be down pretty much all the time to keep it cool which isnt that big of a deal. I wont be using it near as much on the trail this winter as last winter cause I've got a pro r le snowchecked that should be here soon. Now I can set up the clutching and shocks just for boondocking and deep pow so it should be even better this year.

I rode a mod 05 800 Rmk and was very comfortable on it. I thought the 144 was the way to go as I could get anywhere I wanted and loved the setup. I hesitated at the idea of a 155. Anyway I rode my Dads 155 pro last season and with the pro chassis its not even a thought anymore. It is so darn easy to flick around. This thing will outclimb, outfloat, and turn in th fluff about 200000000 times better than your Edge. I'm in good shape and I can honestly say I never got tired while riding. Traded and snowchecked a new 155 for this year! 155 is perfect

I went from a 99 RMK 136" to a 700 Dragon with a 155" in 2007. I thought this thing is huge! Even on the IQ it felt right. It didn't feel like I had a hard time turning and it got up on the snow well. The Pro is so much better than the IQ sleds. Super light and the rear skid works so well that the sled gets on the snow really well. I liked the IQ sleds, but I knew they had some pitfalls. I really believe that the Pro is the best out of the box sled I've ever been on. The 155" is perfect because the sled gets up on the snow so well and allows you to get into the trees. The 163" is better for pure hillclimbing and deep powder but does turn a little slower in my experience. I've only ridden a 163" a few times but I liked the 155" better.

I've had a 156 800 Rmk edge, a 2006 700 RMK, and know I have a 155 pro. The biggest problem your going to have is the first couple rides your going to overdrive the sled, we all did. Then you'll figure out that a little counter steer and a little lean will get you in the and out of the trees like you never dreamed of. You wont notice the length at all when weaving and carving. The body is so narrow that you get the feeling that your on a dirt bike kind of. As long as you have the rear suspension dialed in for the type of riding you do your golden.

that settles it for me then, if it feels like a dirtbike, then 144 or 155, its all the same to me.
i know im leaning towards the assault anyways, thanks for making my decision that much more easy on me :face-icon-small-ton

cant wait, this winter is going to rock

Lorduss:

Don't discount the 163. I'm as old as dirt and went from an '09 RMK 155 to the Pro 163 and couldn't be happier. No problem wiggling through the trees and that was one of my main concerns with the longer track. It's a good scooter.

163 for me

I definitely recommend the 163 as well. I have ridden both the 155 and 163 and there is no difference whatsoever in where you can take one or the other length in the trees. It's all rider skill. Now, on those deep pow days...the 163 will slowly walk away from the 155...consistently...same snow, same day, side by side.

You are gonna LOVE this sled!!

If you want proof that 155 is just fine for the trees....youtube just about ANY Pro video....look at how/where these guys are taking them!

THAT is your answer...if pictures are worth a thousand words, VIDEOS of these "long" track hitting some super tech. sidehill/trees should be all the proof you need! :face-icon-small-hap

my response

I've got a 155" and love it but sometimes [quite a bit ] I wish the snow was deeper . Really the deeper the powder the more fun I have .

Not even remotely too long!

This sled model has the closest feel and result relationship between the two stock offerings as any mtn sled that has ever been produced. Most people couldn't even tell you what one they were on if you took the stickers off and traded back and forth all day. (this was totally apparent during the original test tour phase on this sled as almost all of the magic 200 invite only testers didn't realize there was a 163 in the group...not stickered and not publicized by design) Made even more difficult if you aren't on your own buggy that you've developed a feel for.

Obviously to each his own...but I'd rather have a 163 for myself (and everyone I have to ride with and possibly have to assist getting unstuck and making the trek to where ever it is we are going). This is an entirely new ball game in sled behavior over the old chassis that most are accustomed with. It takes about a good day of free riding to get the hang of this chassis. Shortest learning curve of anything I've ever tried.

Last year my buddies would easily out climb my 08 163" Dragon with their 155" Pro's. My Dragon had the full SLP set up and still could not compete with the stock Pro155". I found the 163" on my Dragon to be to much track for riding around home in the fields and ditches, I would always take my wife's 144" 600 to ride locally. I can't comment on the 163" Pro but the 155" is so easy to toss around and climbs so well that I bought one, hope the Dragon sells!

Buy the pro!!!! I traded an 09 800 Shift rmk with a 2x144 for the pro last fall and have never missed the old sled. The weight and handling are so much improved you don't know the track is longer. It took me places in the Snowys last March that I would have never seen with the 09.

I am comming off a 07 skidoo xrs with a 174 x 2.5 to a pro with a 163. I could take it through the trees with no problems and depending on the snow depth it was easier alot of the time. My wife had a 162 x 2.5 on hers and the only time there was a noticable diff in performance was the deep days and the 174 was much better. Rode a pro and the handling sold me. Rode with one with a 174 x 3" and all I can say is holy !@#$. Go big you will love it.
