Disappointing turnout at sled movie premiere

My question is. Has anyone really pushed to have OE's sponsor a movie? Have you gone and put up your sales pitch and showed them that the numbers will benefit them by sponsoring a movie. Put the same arguments we are having here to the OE's If you ride a ski-doo go to ski-doo talk to the marketing people ask for a little then if you produce ask for a little more the next year. If you prove your worth they will step up. I did this for my self for years racing BMX and MX I had to sell as well as prove myself to the worth of why I should be sponsored. If I didnt produce I got dropped.\

Jorli You had a factory backed riders in your movies sell that. Also those Factory backed riders in your movies isnt their gear and sled provided to them at cost or no cost. Is the race fuel they run given to them by torco or VP. If so you had OE support in a sense.

All I am really saying is take the discussions we have here the comments and go to the OE's,

Post a thred like this "HOW DO I GET OE'S TO SPONSOR A MOVIE?" These guys on here are very smart and have awesome ideas Im sure we could all come up with a list of items to take to a sales pitch.

Post a poll about why we buy specific sleds. do We buy cause burrant looks awesome on the new Poo or cause phattys AC manages to hold up every season. Things like that will take you a lot close than complaining about why they are not sponsoring. Take the negative and make it positive and constructive.

I totally appreciate the input as I do find it constructive, I mentioned in earlier posts that there was zero response from the OEs to Fourcast. Financially, I'm done, I won't be producing anymore sled films. Fourcast couldn't have sucked much worse than it did. 120K to produce, maybe 10K in sales, that hurts! Total bloodbath! 35K in music licensing.....There is a lot of info I can't share here, bottom line is I'm not the guy to change anything, and until there is a real effort to bring new users into this sport, its not worth the time. I've provided a fair bit of info throughout the posts, its beyond discouraging. Its not an issue that the film didn't make back what it cost, what has really bothered me is that I didn't even get a single response from the OEs- (although I should mention that I got the wrong guy with Yamaha) Like F&*K? Are you kidding me?

Jorli,

This might or migth not help with the OE aspect, but what would it take to get sled films on something like Netflix or Itunes? I know fourcast is on i-tunes, but I'm talking something where you can rent the film online.

I personally watch quiet a few BMX, skate, ski, boarding, wakeboarding and surfing films. Maybe more the sled films. Not because I am active in those sports, I am not at all. But I enjoy watching peopel do challenging things and well I can find a ton of those type of films on netflix, hell on www.surfermag.com they have there own online catalog of films you can rent for the day.

I do this cause I don't want to pay 20-30 bucks for a single film, not even a sled film. But I'd love to watch all the new releases each year for 5 bucks.

Also by having films available like that, I would think skiers or boarders or anyone who loves high adrenaline stuff is gonna be inclined to check out the sled vids.

I think the biggest issue with the snowmobile industry is "PARENTS" don't buy your kids a ski pass or a new skateboard this Christmas get them a better or more capable snowmachine. I don't think the blame is getting shed on the right individuals. As a kid i would beg my parents for the new sled video's. I remember watching "Powder Bound" and realizing "So that was how you sidehill in powder".(Those dudes were riding Yamaha Exciters in dirtbike gear for crying out loud)

My family made sledding a priority. I have tons of old VHS sled films to this day. It's not the manufactures it's the younger kids. I live in a small town in the Mountains Every kid here ski's or boards. Some kids, and i repeat some kids sled. Do you know why i believe less kids sled here? It's because parents don't want to take their kids out for a day. They want to drop them for the bus, and forget about them for the rest of the day. Parents i tell you that is where the blame is for video support issues. Kids dork out on the web watching clips of board pros killing it all day long. I believe some new sled film makers are trying to get that drive going (it takes effort) and time. If younger people think sledding is cool the industry will improve for everyone. Look at any market that has a large demographic of kids, and young people involved in it.

It's suck that you put that effort, and budget into your film, and didn't get the results you wanted. We all have ambitions in life i think your film is quality it's your "first" your not known in the industry... all your eggs in one basket on a new "brand" film maybe not the best idea, but you should be proud of that film. Your efforts are only worthless if you give up on your ambition. Just take alot more consideration to how long other sled film makers have put out in the past in such a slow progressing market.

I think getting upset after one video in a new market or a premier for you is alittle premature!!!

I hope you can take in what i am saying. Don't give up! if you love the sport, and making films. If you decide to continue in the industry Do it for the right reasons. If your passionate people recognize it!
If all you wan't is a big pay check maybe buy some lottery tickets! (that's what i do).

Good Luck!!!!! think snow!!!!

Well I will jump in with my 2cents. Like a lot of people said already it is pretty expensive to get into snowmobiling compared to boarding. Motox is not a cheap sport to get into either but I see a lot of kids doing it. I never really rode a motox in my life but my 3 year old watched a race one day and was hooked. At one point he asked if one day he could do that (race) and I said yes he could if he really wanted to and practiced and guess what,he turned 4 I bought him a pw50 he raced his first arenacross last year and has now just finished the first part of this years series. Except for snowcross we don`t have that option in snowmobiling.

I give credit to the xgames and movies like slednecks or even stuff like Pastrana`s nitro circus or thrillbillies vids having little snowmobile segments in them. Their trying to get it out there to the younger generation while trying to make it look cool.

I think our industry and I`m talking about freeriding, boondocking and hill climbing, need some kind of race circuit. It would be a huge logistical nightmare to find the right venues but could be done.

All these other sports have this. A kid buys a skateboard and knows if he practices and rides his *** off that one day he could compete, possibly win, make money, be cool and score the babes. Now you can substitute skateboarding with any other sport except snowmobiling.

Besides movies right now kids have no way to know who is who is the snowmobile industry. The only people buying snowmobile vids are us crusty old bastards who are into it and who know who these guys are anyway.

We need to be able to get the masses out to live events who are not sledders. You hold a hill-climb competition in Whistler on the hill, promote it right and guaranteed non snowmobilers will come. Kids will come with their parents. They might even say to their non snowmobiling dad ,"I want to do that". But the problem would be finding venues where people who don`t have sleds can enjoy them, like Jackson Hole for example.

With the turnouts from the outlaw events like the Bis and now defunk BigDawg Shootout people want something.

So to sum up my wondering rant, if we had some sort of circuit where people could come out to see the pros in action and have some incentive for kids to get into the sport and compete I think we would see the sport grow. Kids nowadays want to see some kind of light at the end of the tunnel and that tunnel possibly have some payoff for their time and investment.

Hope that made sense as I have had a few wobbly pops.

Later
