Dirt Bike Questions?

Why start them in the sand? The little bikes won't go in the sand.

They could sit there and balance?? lol And the bike wouldn't get all banged up when they drop it. :face-icon-small-con
I don't know....
I just read it was a good place to learn and falling in the sand didn't hurt as bad. :face-icon-small-blu

What the heck is this 4th gear? Bikes are meant to be ridden from 1-3 and occasionally on a road or something to find those other gears.

If I was a bigger guy I'd be all over the 300, but alas I am not so it will be from 125-200-250 and no more.

GP I'm only 5'8" and actually had to put a lowering link on the 1 2 and 5 so that I could get both feet down.

And don't think that we don't have switchbacks and hills back here. The elevation may be different and the length of the pulls shorter but we have switchbacks......and a thing called bar lock.

AF canyon, 157 from 4 trail junction up to rock springs... 125 would overheat trying to go up that boulder/shale infested steepness they try and call a trail... The best are the mountain trails in the woods... lots of steep n rocky switchbacks up there...

Keep in mind though that Robb is about your size GP...

I want the KTM 300 with the 6 speed and a recluse clutch... but it will be a few years before that happens.

GP and Ron, can i ride with you guys again someday? :face-icon-small-hap I rode saturday morning for the first time this summer and it was for 3 hours. Got the itch... now i just need to find the time :clock:

Pics and or video of said spot? And are you saying the bike would start to boil and steam or would the clutch maybe be kinda hot? Cause I've been on lots of single track where we passed more then a few thumpers overheating but the two 1 2 and 5s in our group and the 200 just kept on going.

Robb's my size?? Hummmm. I felt like a gorilla on my 125 and even had a riser put on it.

Phatty remember that trail you took Ron and I up a few years ago on my 230? I was a total newbie at the time and I suffered, wait, the bike suffered. :face-icon-small-win Maybe I could have made it if I would have been flying up it in 4th, but there's a lot controversy up AF about going fast on the trails. Some believe you should ride only in 1st and 2nd gear. :face-icon-small-sho
BTW, I hate the word shale. :faint:

Here are our kids on their Honda's. They learned quick and the bikes can take a lot of dropping......

Chris, where are you going to take them to learn? I wish we would have started ours off in the sand but being in the mountains every weekend we just started them on the dirt roads and then the atv trails around. They learn to pick lines quick!

We have to add music to our kid vids because we yell "get your feet on" the a lot of the time. lol

I love that you use Off Spring to cover the yells!!!

KTM 300 is my favorite mountain/trail bike of all time, I have a KTM 200 but it's a little low on torque for big mountains, I've actually been trail riding my KX500 more and more the older and lazier I get, it's a great trail/play bike too.

The CRF150F is incredibly gutless but would be easy to learn on. I'd suggest a bike with an auto clutch for the 8 year old.

And the poor guy isn't even married yet. ;) Have a couple kiddos Phatty and you can kiss summer fun good bye. Unless you have an entire family (Ron and GP) that enjoys getting out and riding.

Whatever you do, don't screw around with big bore kits.

They're worthless.

Would you just sell that POS and get a new bike. You are truly going to kill yourself bugging about it.

And don't get an orange one. I don't see the appeal. All three guys that I know who have 4s orangebikes have had issues this summer.

Hmmmmm?
