Camera is a good idea.
Locking everthing is not an option any more, it is a must.
It is sad when people stoop that low.:(

I dont see why other people have to mess with our stuff. its not like we did anything to them and they can mess with our stuff. Hopefully KARMA will catch up with them. What goes around comes around.

Karma is a b!tch! And, if I catch them they'll be calling me Karma, and pleading for mercy....as I b!tch slap the $hit out of them!!! ;)

I posted about this very thing back at the end of Dec in the General Section. I ride up at Beaver/Franklin alot. One of my buddies had this done to his trailer. He also knows of several others it has happend to this year. Most of it seems be in the Beaver Mtn parking lot. Any of you that park there know of the situation that is a yearly problem, from parking so you cant get in or out, to messing with your rigs. Its clearly the cross country ski crowd. No one has been caught yet. I am trying to set up a couple of battery powered cameras on my trailer that will scan the whole parking lot. Hopefully this will may help. I have locks on all my my stuff. Put locks on your hitch pins, & trailer latch. Also check your lug nuts as well as they have been tampered with before. Make note of other vehicles in the parking lot, jot down the plate #'s and if something is amiss when you get back, call the cops and give them the plate numbers. Even if the cars in the lot are not the ones responsible they will be checked and called. This will help in getting the word out among the greenies that we are not going to take this lightly. I hope it doesnt come down to one person in the group staying at the rig to keep watch. However, if it doesnt get any better then I guess that is what will have to be done.

Take pics of them with a motion sensitive hunting camera, as mentioned, and then hunt them! ;) Would you need a special "greenie tag" for that?

I look for any suspicious vehicles showing up in the parking lot. A couple weeks ago at strawberry river a honda civic showed up and just kind of hung out. 2 guys in the car just sitting there. Who knows what they were there for but I put all the stuff I normally leave out inside and locked up and jotted down the plate number just in case.

I have to agree that it's gotta be the greanies. They hate us. On the trail I usually try and wave at them to be nice and most of the time they don't wave back and usually just shake their heads. don't get it we aren't hurting them so why do they have to to hurt us...

Thats kinda funny. I was actually up strawberry in a honda civic checking out to see how much snow there was. I was with like 3 of my buddies though. I knew i was gettin looked at funny because i didnt have sleds.

Hey Dragon....is this you??

No i wish. That might be me this weekend though. I might have to leave the truck at the shop and load the sled just like that on the civic.

I will definately keep my eyes peeled.
We have parked at franklin for years... At least 3 times a month, mostly saturdays.
We used to stay the weekend and never lock up the trailer.
We always lock up now but I don't do an inspection before leaving... I think that from now on I will.
Just a few weeks ago we were riding for the day... Trailer was not locked... My dads friend pointed out that a particular truck had driven through the lot a couple times and had no skis or sleds.
We put everything inside and locked it up.
The issues between the sledders and skiers seems to be better than years past IMO... At least at franklin basin.
I think giving them bunchgrass and hells kitchen helped a lot.
I am all about shared usage.
I do however see a lot of disrespectfull snowmobilers... Whether it be to skiers or other sledders.
Not to mention all the trash I pick up in the lot and on the road each time I go up.
I try to always be poli

That sucks that it happened period!!!

One reason I have an enclosed trailer and lock on the tongue...

But I did not think about someone loosening lug nuts.... that is going to be another task to check before leaving...

I have been parking at FB for 3 years now and never had a problem, whether it was weekend or weekday... I hope that does not change...

I like the camera Idea...

Earlier this week in the Herold Journal somebody wrote a letter to the editor. This person claimed that they owned land up there and had a yurt. They ranted about how when they got up there last week, or maybe the week before, that they were shocked to see a group of sledders on their land. They went on and on about how there were snowmobile tracks all over there beautiful property, and that some trees were bumped into and ran over. They even were shocked that the sledders had the audacity to drive right up to their yurt. This person was pretty much warning sledders to stay out of the area. They were mad enough they said to follow those tracks for awhile to see where they were. I don't remember this person's name, but I will try to see if I can find that letter, because it listed their name, and that they lived in Providence. If that was me, I would contact the police about this article in the paper, and have them question these individuals because they openly said that they were mad at the sledding community. Could it just be a coinsidence that these two events in the exact same area, happened at about the same time? Hmmmmm, I think not!

Are you guys serious!! I always knew that there were greenies, trehuggers, and the sort but usually they just rant about it. I grew up a loggers son so i get it. Committing malicious acts is completely against their "cause". Unlatching a trailer or loosening lug nuts is crazy. More than just a dented tailgate. What if it comes off on the highway and kills somebody?? People really pi$$ me off. I've had some stuff stolen before but this is way off. What's wrong with people??

A hunting (motion detector) camera would be good to leave in your truck window....thats what I do and it gets some interesting footage up chalk creek where I ride....

like what kind of interesting footage? people snooping around your trailer? someone borrow your loading ramp?

Broken windshields

Up at guardsmans a few years back all of the trucks with trailers got the windshields broke out including mine. None of the vehicles without trailers were broke. go figure

Pissed me off

This just disgusts me. I have lived in Preston, ID for 15 yrs and have been riding these areas for 16. I have never had this kind of thing happen to us and am grateful. I wish that these greenies would think of all the things that could happen when they do this stuff.

These greenies don't realize that those NICE trails they are using to cross country ski on and hike and all the other chit they do are the same ones we use. Do they forget that we pay to have these groomed and kept up. I don't see them paying to be up there. I think that we should see them have to buy stickers for their skis or even some kind of license to compensate for US sledders that are keeping the trails up. Just my .02

Where were you parked? On the Utah side? I park on the Idaho side and I have to admit that sometimes in those cramped parking lots that people have really not thought when parking. So if you come back to load up and can't load the sleds or pull the truck out, we get a little upset. Use common sense when parking next to somebody. I know that I have seen peeps slide a trailer over so that they could get out, but never undo the hitch.

Sorry for your mishap and I do hope that KARMA kix their A$$.
