For you Nytro guys out there I have a dilemmma. I got the go ahead from the other half to buy a new sled. I want a nytro but I am not sure on the MTX or the XTX. I do alot of ditch riding, with some trail riding, but I go to the cooke city once a year, but if i got a different sled I would go to the mountains more then once I am sure. Which one should I get, the dealership told me that the MTX's clutching is only for the mountains and to ride around here (north dakota)I would have to change it all the time, is that true? IF I got the XTX I would definantley get a bigger lugged track. ANyway what are your guys suggestions? PLease help I am getting excited for a new sled to ride in all this snow. Thanks

I would get the XTX. Then swap out the track for sure!
I highly recommend set of mountain skis for the trips out west. Skis are easy to swap back and forth, depending on if your riding mountains or back home in the ditches.
XTX will handle easier in the mountains, with the sway bar removed. The bar un-bolts fairly easy, so you can bolt it back in for flat lander duty! Or just pull one of the links.

I just got an XTX, intended for dual-duty.
First off for the wife to trail ride, and second for commuting up 6mi of trail to our cabin, lastly as a shorter track play sled. The ski stance/width is not an issue if you're in deep powder, it pulls over just fine but you may want to drop that sway bar. It handles quite nicely in powder. I think the sway bar helps it a lot on the trail especially at high speeds though as it is rock solid throughout the turns and bumps. It does need better skis - for either trail or off-trail use. I'm going to test C&A Razors and Powder Pro's and see how it respond on trail and off.

You'll definitely notice it is heavier than a two stroke, but it is very easy to maneuver once you get the hang of it. I don't see how you could possibly keep the stock track. I put on the 1.75" Back Country track - but if you do this, don't buy it from the Yami dealer. They're asking $809.00, where tracksUSA has it in the low $500 range. The tiped up rails are wonderful on the groomed trail - it actually feels shorter, but off-trail, a conventional rail might help a bit more. The bridging bumps like a 136 is marketing BS. It bridges bumps like the 144" that it is.

The stock clutching leaves a lot to be desired, and will take some time to work out. It is forgiving for the whife, but offers no hit whatsoever. The mid-range is strong, but this sled would definitely require a turbo if it were to be ridden off-trail as a primary sled to make up for the lower HP stock setup. It kind of feels like cheating to have electric start, although I'm sure there's a weight penalty. They need to look into a non-mechanical reverse too, as it's a bit of a pain and a weight penalty as it's rarely used.

All in all - a nice sled though. Fit and finish is top notch.
Yamaha has some nice incentives going on too.

Anyways - that's all I have to offer!

Good Luck,

Xtx???

You should ride them both. MTX is not that bad on the trails. Skiis on both suck so that's a wash but buying a second track and changing it out for deep and steep? Gearing will also be high on the XTX so likely have to change that too. If your paying to have this done it will suck. Twice per trip!!! I don't ride trail too much so maybe I'm a bit bias for MTX and deeper snow and hills. XTX will have new front end geometry and better shocks though. I'm told skiis are ok for trail but not good off trail. Neighbor just brought one home on Thurs but its too bloody cold to ride. -35c with a good breeze ta boot!!! Gonna get a great sled either way. Good luck.
