Right now I have an M7 for the mountains and an Apex GT for the flatlands. I love both sleds. The Apex surprised me in terms feeling light weight for a heavy sled. For 09 I have been kicking around a couple of ideas for a new mountain sled. One is an 09 M8. The other is buying a used Mountain Apex and possibly turboing it and adding a bunch of lightweight parts.

My question is this: How much weight can be removed from an Apex for about 3 grand? Which parts can be replaced with lighter ones. Where is the money best spent? How much does a turbo systems weigh?

I know I am never going to get it near what an M7 or M8 weighs, but I remember what it was like to ride a Mountain SRX and I do not want to go back there. I mostly do boondocking with an occasional climb.

Buy someones else's already built unit, you'll save $ and still have money personalize it.

I have a TRX-1 with simmons gen 2 skis and can go anywhere I want. I have better flotation than a stock DOO 08 154XP. I own one of them too.:D
And when you do climb I do not care what you compare it to if the other sled is not turboed. Not even comparable. You will go by a stuck 2 stroke on the hill with the skis up @ 50mph. At least that has been my experiance. The deeper the pow the bigger the gap. There is no substitution for big power. That said Go for the built boosted Apex. You will not be disappointed.:D

Timbersled front & rear, seat and hood. Should be about 60-70lbs off. But when you add the turbo you won't be as concerned with the weight, LOL. Both is even nicer though.

What he said also don't rule out an RX1 done up either some great values there these days.

M5

Yep used would be the way to go for sure! Let someone else take the biggest hit.

I have a RX-1 for sale also.

Looks like seat, front and rear suspension is about 50lbs. Anywhere eles to look for easy savings?

timber sleds skid -30
bark buster front end -15
light weight battery -10
light weight alpine hood -10
light weight seat -10
light weight under tunnel exaust -10 to -20 depending on the one you choose

I'd jump on that new Nytro sale below for $7800. Take the $2,500 less MSRP for Camo CE and Timbersled skid, sell one of your sleds for a turbo kit and floats\Timbersled front. You'd be around 510lb dry, have at minimum 220+hp and a reliable everyday sled that boondocks and climbs better than either of your current sleds.
