Dad might be buying a nytro ? Help please new to yamaha

Pretty much! I'm a little more meticulous on my pre-season maintenance than most but those are the basics. I change my oil/filter once a season.

What else do you do for maintence ? Also how many miles do you roughly put on in a season ? Also do all the nytros have batterys ? Is it just needed for electric start ?

Also how much does a nytro weigh ? Im just trying to compare it to a m1000 (515-520lbs). My dads trying to consider me into getting one but im only 160lbs and im younger so not as strong as alot of you and i like sidehilling and all and just think i would get real tired on these sleds .......

How much do all you weigh and are these sleds hard to ride/sidehill ? Also how are they on gas ? Any of you ever ride a m7 ? If so how do they compare ?

The nytro has a 5 quart oil tank and an small filter on the bottom of the motor. the motors are dry sumped meaning that there is a scavenge pump in the bottom of the motor that pumps all the oil back into the oil tank. The reason you need what they call a rollover valve is because the breather for the oil tank runs from the top of the tank into the airbox if you tip the sled over while the motor is running all the oil will run into the airbox and out the bottom leaving you stranded. The valve is hooked to a tether. If you fall off it shuts the valve and kills the motor so no oil will leak out. most of us found out the hard way the first time we rolled the sled over without one.

In stock form these sled are pretty easy to sidehill if they are setup for your riding style. With the stock front geometry they can be a little unpredictable meaning they can pitch you off and are a little twitchy. The new skinz front end is suppose to help this tremendously.

All the nytro's have batteries. Going with a lithuim ion battery is one way to loose some 10 lbs but they come with there own set of issues you have to deal with. I think the lightest Nytro i have seen ready to ride is right around 600 lbs with all the lightweight parts you can buy. There is no way getting away from the weight fo these sleds. Really the only time you notice the weight is when you get stuck. As clatla said ride smart. But that is not to say they dont take a little more energy to ride. Walk around with a 50 lbs weight in your backpack all day and you will see that you are a little more tired at the end of the day.

Ok all good info and what are the dry weight of these sleds stock ? Also im considering one i just want to know more performance parts other then a exhaust system and headers and intake cause from my reading that gains about 14hp whats some other things you could do to these sleds ? Also what if you have the sled on its side and its still running and you dont pull the tether will it still leak oil ?

Good info so these sleds are about 30lbs-40lbs more then a m1000 and 800 dragon. Im sure i could loose weight if i really wanted for cheap to im pretty good and get crafty when it comes to that. Ive also seen people go as far as drilling holes in the tunnel and rails to loose weight... i dunno about that ahah kinda weaking important parts of the sled. Anyways thanks for the info if anyone has more to add please do.

I think i might try demo one just to get a feel for one.

I wouldn't buy one unless you rented/demo'd one first, and make sure you get enough time on it. There are pluses and minuses to EVERY sled and the you'll want to recognize them and make sure that your ok with them.

Also realize that the wet weight of the sled listed in the graph above is a 2010 sled which is I think around 10lbs lighter than the 08' & 09'.

Ok i know i would love this sled for a turbo or if i had more money but on my tight budget i just dont know....... How much would say a vanamburg tunnel help with weight ?

You are right justinkredible56. I got this off a review of the 2010 MTX. Since there was some talk about cumminshp looking at a newer sled earlier in the post. Dont forget cumminshp one key factor in your comparsion.

The MTX might be only +/-30 lbs heavier to the 800 and M1000, but they are also rated at +/- 138 HP in perfect conditions of a dyno room and i think the 800 is +/- 155 HP and the M1000 is +/- 165 hp. So more weight less hp means that the wieght will be that much more apparent.

I agree with justinkredible56 I would definitly try to demo one of this sled first to see if they are right for you. Every sled has upsides and downside.

I agree i am going to try demo one. Also with my m7 i got it down to about 440lbs and ive barley done everything if i keep it i will drop more weight this summer. Im at around 135-140hp. Also for the m8's your off the 2010-11s are 163hp and 460lbs or less i cant remember the weight exactly.
