D8 Valve Springs?

What does the Valve spring do?
Some guys are blocking the hoses from the power valves to the coil does that change what the spring is doing?
I see some guys are going to the pink spring at higher elevations. Do you still need to do that is you disable the coil?

The exhaust valve spring doesn't do much until the solenoid closes and allows exhaust pressure to build. Then the spring controls how quickly the valve can open and to what extent. It also controls closing pressure.
At altitude some people need a lower rate spring as there is less available pressure to open the exhaust valve. If the spring is too stiff it will keep the valve from fully opening.
The idea behind plugging the valves is to get them to function like the old true VES (variable exhaust system). With the solenoid in control it makes the valve work in an either open or closed fashion.
Not always necessary, but it helps give a better piece of mind. The solenoid holds the valve closed longer than it should. JMO  Thus creating more heat in the valve and around the exhaust port. This area already suffers from insufficient cooling.
Here is the thread about plugging the valves.

Thanks that helps!
Going to try replacing tee with bolt to disable the valve.
