We just got back from a good trip, had lots of chances to compare two Dragons to 2 XP's and an 07 800 Rev 159, a 900 RMK 166 and a couple Yammi's. Dragons and XP were all 163's. One Dragon SLP piped, one stock, XP's were vented, 1 with after market driven, 1 with cold air kit, no belt troubles. Guys are all very experienced tuners, know what they're doing. All were happy with their clutching set-up except the one XP had a tad much weight in the primary.. Snow was 2 - 2.5 ft fresh.
2 days and pretty tough to pick a clear winner, definetly no stand-outs. The o7 and the RMK were close, the Dragons and XP's traded high marks if they ran new snow only. If they ran up a track, the Dragons were hands down winners, but nobody cares much about poaching. Same old problems for the Doo's, as soon as the clutches heat up from consecutive runs, their marks got lower. In my mind, big advantage to Poo in clutching, everyone learned fast if you want to beat em, keep em moving. Polaris track is suspect in the majority opinion, too soft even in the snow we were in, Doo track performed way better overall. Test was pretty fair, had same guy on each sled for comparisons, bigger men then smaller guys. Results pretty much the same with heavy or light riders. Dragon comments were, narrow running boards, rougher trail manners, bad seat shape. Doo misses were crappy wind protection, no storage, sticky clutching, motor seemed to play out a bit on really long pulls.
Good group of realists, some with brand loyalty, everyone came away agreeing, no one would bet the farm on either one.
Oh gas mileage, small advantage to XP.
Good sleds, lots of fun for 150 HP sleds.
