Cyclists-are you a pedestrian or a car?

LMAO at the dude who snagged a tow off the car.

I ride a mountain bike, all the good trails are across town on campus...so myself and the roommates ride through town like a bunch of hooligans, taking the sidewalk most of the time (I don't want to get hit by a 16 year old girl texting while putting on make up and driving) but if I need to cross a road I don't look for a crosswalk, I merge into traffic and use a turn lane...if I come to an intersection with a green light I blow through it, I don't wait for permission to cross from a the ped x-ing sign.

I also yeild to cars, and ride defensively, I've never even had a close call...but I've broken every traffic law you can name...other than speeding :)

Its because of reponses like these that I have almost completely quit road riding. We have been hanging out at our new Velo Park lately !.

Who cares what people's ignorant opinion is about bikers. I will never stop rode riding. Ride defensively and watch out for the occasional Red neck or old person. All is good on the open road.

That velo park looks like a kick in the pants!

When I was in college and also when I used to work close to my house, my mtn bike was my main source of transportation. I was one of those guys you've complained about. Blowing stop signs, jumping curbs, etc. I felt that I was neither a ped or a car, I was just a guy making up his own rules. Rules that helped me go faster or save some energy. The problem is that following all the traffic rules in town make for a very boring ride.

Even though I was a jerk for riding like this, I did respect one thing. I did not expect traffic to stop or be inconvienced in any way by my actions. I looked out for cars and assumed they could not see me. I rode defensively. All cyclists in town need to do this.

We need to share the road. That's a given.
But the cyclists need to do everything they can to live in harmony with motorists.

Keep in mind that our roads are paid for from fuel tax, so the cyclists are getting a "free ride" here.
(How many of us whine about x-country skiers on our trails for the same reason?)

Finally, a cyclists will lose every time in an accident, whether they had the right of way
or not.
Even if your presence on the roadway is viewed as an inconvenience by some,
none of us want to be involved in any accident where a cyclist was injured or
killed.

Cyclists that ride in or near the traffic lanes are tree hugging fags that want to make it a point that you see how they are trying to help the world by biking!

Ride on the side walk and let us freedom loving, gas burning, single occupant large truck driving people get to work.

:D:D:D That's hilarious.
I don't personally subject myslef to the abuse of riding 30mi to work on my 2 wheeler, don't do it for recreation either. He!! the only bike I own has a 350cc 2smoke under the seat!
That said, I'm usually pretty curteous and most road bikers are as well (same as any other sport or activity where 90% are cool and 10% are a...holes), but this weekend really set me off.
I'm driving up US 6 (highway, 65mph speed limit) and there's one bike up ahead, riding on the shoulder (paved, about 5 ft wide) and 2 others behind him about 1/4 mi riding side by side, taking up the ENTIRE driving lane!
Well, I just so happened to have bought a 07 5.9, 6sp Cummins, with about a 100hp tune loaded in it. I slowed up, bikes did not move over, and they saw me in their helmet mirrors WTF!. I stayed behind these two a...holes until traffic was clear, even gave a slight horn honk in case they could'nt see the 7000lb black truck in their mirror. They didn't budge............................SO I gently and courteously puleld out to pass, and "accidently missed the shift into 3rd and hit 4th gear, then my foot accidently slipped to the floor board with the throttle under it ;). What ensued was the smoking of all smoke outs:D. Was going slightly up hill with about 2000lbs of cement bags in the bed.
That truck laid a cloud so thick on 'em that I couldn't see them for a good 10 seconds!:cool:
