Cyclists-are you a pedestrian or a car?

It's not easy to ride in traffic...been there done that. I lived on my mtn bike when I was in college. BUT, I followed traffic laws. I didn't ride on the sidewalk and didn't blow stop signs (when there were cars present, LOL).

I don't mind bikes in town, if you are crazy enough to go through traffic on one go ahead, but I really hate cyclist on the highways. I drive 60,000 miles a year, and all it takes is a split second to approach the fog line at the wrong time and wipe out someone on a bike. It happens to someone around here almost every year.

I don't doubt for a second cycling is tough. But let me get this straight. You guys believe it's okay for a cyclist to go 15-20 blocking traffic that generally goes 35? Not only are they congesting the flow of traffic, but they are creating a dangerous situation where motorists have to cross into the oncoming lane to get around.

I never understand why a cyclist will take up half a lane when they can hug the right edge or get this...USE THE BIKE LANE OR SHOULDER and not congest traffic.

Go the speed limit and quit creating dangerous situations. Bottom line.

What is the difference between a cyclist and the grandma or WB who drive 40 in a 55 or 15 in a 20? If a car is going slow in a no passing zone you just stay behind them and get pissed off. The only difference with a bike is that you CAN get around them so you do. I always ride on the white line or outside of it. The reason a lot of people ride in the middle of the lane is because when you are riding the white line or even outside of it a$$hole drivers DON"T GET OVER at all. If you are in the middle of the lane when they go around they usually get all the way over in the other lane. A lot of times you get more room between you and the pissed off drivers mirror in the middle of the lane than you do on the white line.

cycling

for all you drivers that have been inconvenienced by bicyclists I'm so sorry you had to lift your foot off the gas pedal for a split second...heck maybe you even had to go as far as a tap on the brake to avoid one of us selfish bikers...one problem is the bike lanes are inconsistent, sometimes we have a lane then it's gone, can't stay in the bike lane cause the button to cross the street is not reachable from it, it's always something, I could get run over ever day if I wanted to..especially by those making a right turn on red with caution, they never look to the right...so I am neither a ped or a car...hey! are you paying attention???

It's not an inconvenience issue, it's more of a safety issue. Coming around a bend and all the sudden there is a bike going half the speed limit. It breaks the flow of traffic and that to me is the most dangerous part of driving. Same with a grandma going slow. Can't keep up, get off the roads.

If you want to use the roads, follow the laws, bottom line. Don't go slow, don't blow stop signs, don't pass on the right at stop signs.

Let's face it, 90% of drivers are idiots. Do you really want to force an idiot to make a split second decision when they come around a corner and your blocking the road? I wouldn't. How do you expect a woman on her cell phone, drinking her coffee, late for work, to get around you safely? LOL, don't force idiots into split second decisions I guess is my point. Haha

That is awesome! Would be cool to do, but I would probably end up under one of those buses. Saw some similar vid of a guy doing that in Spain or somewhere on a KLR. Crazy!

That is crazy chit

Man the peeps on here thought they had something to complain about. Cyclists running over people and cutting off cars. Imagine if someone would open a car door and send a guy flying

Having a car door open in front of you is not fun. I have had it happen a couple of times. I was lucky both times and didnt have a car coming up along side me. One of my cycling friends was hit from behind by a car. The front of the car hit the bike & sent my friend up over the hood to the windshield. Then 20ft in the air. He survived and was pretty lucky. The driver said he didnt see him, although I am sure what ever he was drinking at the time didnt help ether. Three of my other buddies were not so lucky when a drunk driver hit them all from behind. 2 were killed and the other lost his legs.

Patience !

I really cant belive all the stereotyping / name calling there is going on in this thread. Different people are in to different things. Have some patience, respect and consideration for other people. That might be a nerosurgen, mother of 4,teacher your wife ! your not giving enough room to. Do you honk your dumb azz off when a decorated 90 year old marine is making his way very slowly accross the crosswalk holding YOU up ?
Chill people.
How often does this really occur and how long ( SECONDS ) does it ACCUALLY
HOLD YOU UP ?

Wow, you know I can appreciate someone wanting to ride a bicycle on the road to commute, but........I can't stand the cyclists who want the best of both worlds.
Riding up to a 4 way stop, SOME of them swing into the crosswalk without dismounting to blow thru the stop signs.
Driving in the middle of the road holding up traffic, when everyone finally gets past them, they ride up the hard shoulder at the next light, get in front, and do it all over again?
If I rode a bike up the middle of the road in rush hour wearing a spandex suit and aerodynamic helmet, I'd fully expect the guy in the Ford Super Duty behind me to follow me and beat the s%#t out of me.
I think he would be within his rights, no? lol.

This is where I started.....note I said SOME cyclists.

I remember last summer I was riding up one of the main streets in town about 20mph. A lady at a stop sign saw me coming and punched it to turn left and get in front of me. The issue was not even 100 yards after she turned on the road is the entrance to the Safeway parking lot (to the right) That is where she was headed. So she is pushing her mid 80’s POS mini van to the limit to get in front of me only to slam on her brakes and turn with no blinker. I was right even with her back wheel when she did this. I locked up my brakes to avoid going through her door window. As I did this I screamed “Hey you incredibly thoughtful lady.”

I know she saw me because she HAD to get in front of me but she didn’t care when she turned into the parking lot (with no blinker)

And now.......you are........??? Bi polar?
I don't know, do YOU think ANYONE would honk at a 90 yr old marine?
Cool it, Amarosa.....

Then one time a band camp...

Again last summer I was riding down a country road about 22mph or so. Coming up to this white trash redneck house where I know there is a dog that like to chase. As I approach I see the dog as well as about 5 adult males and a couple females outside. I think Oh I will be fine they will call the dog.

Nope...I hear "you better pedal faster" as the dog takes off chasing me. I wasn't worried about the dog but the fact that these guys said that really pissed me off.

Few days later driving the powerstroke in the same area and I see this a$$hole riding his motorcycle. I was instantly full of road rage. Thought about swerving at him but then thought better of it.

Everytime I drive by his house I think what a d!ck

Sure there are just like any other group, 90% obey the law & 10% are the dips that dont.

From what I've seen in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and any other place I've lived... it's been 10% obey the laws, 90% dont'... It's even worse on 2 lane mountain roads where there is no shoulder, you can't pass, and the guy on the bike is going 5mph uphill... That's fine if you think pedalin up a hill is fun, but let the 50 damn cars behind ya go around!!!!
