Crud in chain case

2018 M8000 Mtn Cat. First time splitting the chain case on this sled. I’m seeing bits and pieces of some plastic. What would that be from? There looks like a large build up between the back of the case and the tensioner. This is the best picture I could take.

And what a pain in the rear getting that cover off. I don’t remember my 13 being as frustrating.

Can’t attach so here is a link I hope

a bit of grease is used in the assembly part and this is most likely the place it piles up. no need to split the chain case in 18 it has a drain plug on the bottom. If you want to flush it just drain it fill it full of diesel or any thing you like for a solvent and put it in the air and spin the track for a few minuets then drain and re fill with 16 oz of oil

Is the plug still in the jackshaft. I put 2 belt drives on 18’s last week and one of them had the plug missing in the jack shaft. We found bits and pieces of it in the bottom of the case. Might be what your seeing.

That must be it. It looks like it wedged in between the case and tension block. I noticed my tension block has a worn taper across the face of it now. I’m assuming this cap jammed and then put enough pressure to twist it. I can feel and see slight grooves from the chain on the face.

The top gear seems to float about 1/16” in and out on the jackshaft. Doesn’t appear to be any rotational play. I thought it would be tighter. The lower gear doesn’t appear to have any play.

End of the world to run without that cap? I’m sure my dealer won’t have one in stock

Apparently you have already been running without the cap so it shouldn’t be to big of a deal. I don’t think there should be any play with the gear sliding in and out on jack shaft.

This is normal wear on the tension block, I don’t think I’ve seen one cat with”even wear” across the block, when you remove or install the tensioner you can see it push a bit to one side, I wonder if thes is caused by the torsional tension spring. But it’s a non reliability issue.

you gonna split the transfer case open on your truck and inspect it next?
drain from the plug and refill it with a 15oz bottle of synthetic cat oil and ride it!
