Contacts?

I wear contacts everyday and have had no issues when sledding I ride with the some people who wear glasses and they are always fogging and fighting with them. I am getting lasik in April and can't wait

I wear contacts 9 days out of 10 anyways....so I definitely wear them sledding.

If you have a good fitting contact, they don't "fall out" for no reason. I wakeboard in the summer and have wiped out face first, eyes open, and even that didn't take out my contacts. Unless there is some medical reason preventing you from wearing contacts, I think you'd be nuts to wear glasses sledding just based on comfort/fogging.

BTW....I used to tough it out when I was your age and try to wear contacts/glasses as little as possible. Not worth it, particularly with something like sledding. It's just some much better when you can see clearly. You can even get contacts you can sleep in these days.

Lasik- Best $$$ I Ever Spent

had 20/200 before 20/15left eye, 20/12.5 right eye only side effect is that my eyes are a bit sensitive to sunlight - Gotta wear Shades.

He's 17 guys....not going to be getting lasik anytime soon

Thank you for that Jay.
Yes, you need to wait until your done growing and are stable physically, before opting for Lasik or other corrective proceedures, but in hindsight I wouldn't wait as long as I did (late 30's). I think a lot of posters are sharing their expiriences, not specifically addressing them to the OP's biometric specifics.

My two cents to the OP'er is to get contacts if they are suitable for your eyes, and while you are there let them know that you are considering LASIK or other corrective procedure. Go with their professional opinion as to when and which one suits you best.

Thanks for all the opinions, guys. I'm gonna go talk to my optometrist sometime in the next month or two about contacts. Maybe one day I'll get lazik, when I'm older:

Started wearing contacts last september, and its the best thing I've done so far. Been wearing glasses for 13 yrs for everything. I'm 41 yrs old so the hardest thing to learn was to get them in, after that everything is great about them.

Eye doc's are using every excuse they can find to try and convince people not to do laser surgery. This thing to no do it before 25 is another excuse. Absolutely the best thing I ever did. Glasses suck for any sport and contacts are better but not that much. I did endurance racing and I would get carbon fiber and fiberglass fragments embedded in the contacts and have to drive for hours with that in my eye. Also, I kept my contacts in for too long when I was younger(they were the first 30 day continuous wear style) and my eyes are permanently blood shot now. Look stoned all the time. I was 20/1300 in my left eye and 10/900 in my right before the surgery and 20/15 after. After about 10-12 years my eyes go from 20/15 to 20/25 or 20/30 at the end of a long day. BTW the laser surgery ninja is a Dr Linn in Vancouver BC. He costs more than $999 an eye but he is worth it. And yes I get the OP is 17 and probably too young for the surgery but if I were him I would do it sooner rather than wait til 25.

lasik forsure

I did lasik when I was 23. wore glasses since I was 8. I still have 20/20 vision after years! cost me 3000 bucks came with lifetime checkups, and lifetime rebuzzing if they fade away. I have no side effects other then everything is really bright, but I buy good sunglasses and goggles anyways. All I can say is when you can get lasik do it. just do your research and go in for a consultation. I actually did mine at Lasik MD in edmonton at the mall. Went to go buy pants ended up getting my eyes buzzed. Also its cool when you smell the smoke from your eyes, and the sound of the machine is like a mig welder.

And take the sedative, the consult girl was ridiculously hot, and when she asked if I wanted the sedative I said no im ok, just to be a man, well wrong move for me. I just about passed out on the table! I have trouble with myself touching my eye ball never mind anyone else.

I have a set of pro-vue goggles with the fan in them and am very happy with them and would recomend to others. Service was excellent.

My eyesight is good enough to see the clock and I could watch tv from across the room however everything would be blurry so when I take my goggles off I can see good enough to get by. I carry an old set of glasses with me but I never use them

I always had problems with contacts and wearing glasses under goggles was 50/50 at best. Seem like it depends on the weather and temp.

As others have posted, I would wait until you are older before Lasik. Most Doctors are saying 21 before your eye prescription becomes stable. If you have any astigmatism now, soft contacts will not help. It's either hard contacts or glasses. I have mild astigmatism and don't notice much difference while snowmobiling.

Although most people post no side affects, I personally would not do Lasik due to my chosen career. I fly airplanes for a living and don't want to take the chance or a botched procedure. You can end up with side effects that are career ending for some although admittedly the risks are quite low.

Lasik is only one of many treatments out there now. If your eyes are still chnaging, any good doctor will tell you that you have to wait until your eyes become stable or its a waste of money because your eyes will continue to change and cause you more issues done the line. Find the best doctor in your area that has the most experience and happy patients. This is one area that saving money is not the way to go.
There are other procedures out there as well that work better depending on the severity of your eyesight. I my case they inserted permanent contact lenses in my eyes. The good thing about them is that if there is ever a problem they can just take them out. It costs a little more but it was worth it to me. Lasik is permanent regardless if it works out good or bad. Do your research first then you know what questions to ask so you can pick the best doctor.

What's lasik surgery cost nowadays??? I cannot wear contacts. They bother the hell out of my eyes.

accuviews for riding work good just cant see worth a dam all day long if i have to look at something small on my sled. Wear 'em and toss 'em.

Wow. I appreciate all the opinions in here. Anyway, I'm going to look into contacts this year. Thanks guys.

One more here with a thumbs up for contacts. Would prefer to Doo lasik, but just can't swing it yet. I used to wear glasses primarily. Went 50/50 with glasses and 3 month contacts for sports and riding. Allergies killed me for some reason with the 3 monthers, so I switched to Focus Dailies about 4 years ago. Best move made to date. No issues with allergies, new set every day or they'll last 2-3 days if you put them in a case each night. Use them for everything with one minor issue. On very rare occasions (usually after sleeping in them) I've had one dry out while riding at high speeds. Never lost one, but had it happen in a race in 2011 lol. If I've been sitting around for a while or get ready for a run I just fake yawn a couple times to get my eyes wet and no issues from there. Boating, riding motos, sledding, golf, skiing and everything else I can't even tell I'm wearing them 99% of the time. Even with allergies I usually don't get bothered by the dry air, temps, dust during the summer. Lasik is on the way, but the dailies have been a life saver.
