Cool dogs the Dobeys. Had one in high school back in the early 80's

I have to ask.... What is that white thing sticking up off the dogs neck ?

I have a feelinf J-roc is going to get a pup from Nate !

Ever see that live site for the Shiba's?
This is "Lexi". She's 3.5 years old now. If raised from a pup with children, they are the most loving, loyal and caring dogs. Don't believe any of the hype around their agressiveness. They can be... but if you raise them around your kids from an early age that agressive behavior is in DEFENSE of you and yours. They can be a little snotty towards other dogs, but it seems only particular ones. Lex gets along great with all our friend's dogs on outings. She just hates schnauzers...but my other two dogs (american eskimo and black lab/german sheperd mix) hated them too. go figure.
They are completely independent and very self consious. This was the easiest dog we have had in terms of house training. I just installed a doggy door in the basement slider and she "just knew", I'm talking 72 hours! If you put them in a kennel, they will hold it all day if nesessary because they have an inborn instinct for neatness. So that will carry over to the home. (Lex was never kennel trained).
Talk about FUN! they have a need at times to burn off excess energy so they can sleep. And usually at night they will go on a 5 min. terror most owners call the "shiba 500". It's the most hillarious thing to see! GREAT DOGS!! My other dogs lived 15 yrs. each, and their loss was devastating... but I can honestly say when this one goes, it will be comparable to losing a human life.
All my nieces and nephews will come over just to see lexi..to hell with us... it's always about the dog!

NICE dog! I found a few possibilities in the local paper.... One is a litter of german shepherd/ lab crosses.... Might go look on Sunday. Thoughts?

My Shepherd is smart, loving, and loyal. He's also mean as a snake when it comes to strangers. Great dog for keeping my truck safe in the snow park!

The Lab in them could mellow them out and be a totally awesome well rounded dog. A pure Shepherd is amazing with kids in it's own pack, but I wouldn't trust them for a second when friends come over and play. The protective instinct is great, but could be a liability in the wrong situation.

See how the parents are if you can. That should give you an indication of what you're getting into.

Another vote here for a springer spaniel...I've had one for about 3 years now and he's great...he gets pretty excited as soon as you first see him, but after you are around him for awhile he calms down and is awesome. Great lil huntin dog as well, and is great with people.

Oh V man those shepards are awesome dogs. That is a fine looking animal!!

All great dogs, and owners on this thread. You can tell alot about people by the way they treat there animals. Labs, Goldens, Springers, all great and smart. I love Shepards. A few pics of Rico. 1 1/2 years old in these pics. Smart, more personality and the most docile dog I have ever had. He is my buddy. In one pic I told him that we had to clip his toe nails....went to mom for protection..

Yep, if some kid want to get aggressive with your kid, the dog might get not like that to much. Rico is expected to reach 165 lbs. his dad was and mom was 145. He is protective, but not aggressive. A big diffrence. Parents that are mellow can turn on in a flash when they sense something wrong. You will never want a shepard as a neck tie......

Boxer

My family used to raise boxers, best dogs around kids. They are playful with loads of energy and each and every one of them have their own unique personality. I have an 8 year old male and a 4 year old male.
German shepherd is a nice choice, too. My bf used to have one of those.
Good luck, let us know when you get something!

We love our labs and blueheelers, but that would be a good combination. We never forget our best friends but sometimes a new family member makes the healing process a little easier and giving a deserving dog a new home is always a good thing.
