Considering a new pup.... Need ideas please....

Dogs that like sleds!!

Seriously I grew up with Springers but love the Vizsla's. Great personality, smart as hell, clean up nice but not for everyone. Need to run them a hour each day. On my third. Here is the latest.

I had a friend that had a Vizsla they seemed like pretty cool dogs, she was pretty high strung..but aren't all puppies for the most part? I'm probably not too good with answering your question on what dog to get...because I love dogs...every dog I see I want, haha its terrible. I have a golden retriever, and honestly shes been one of the best dogs..all my relatives have had a lab/retriever of some sort..so I'm kinda biased. Shes getting to be an old girl now though at 9...

My boyfriend and I got a boxer, Chloe.. She is a very good dog at a year and half, a big cuddle dog..they think they can sleep on your lap. :) They like to snore, and have big personalities, they are active dogs though...just like any dog you should get them outside and play with them. They learn very quickly, so teaching them things goes fast!
Heres some pictures of her...

Golden Retreiver. I love em. Got 2, one thats 3 and one thats gunna be 8 on christmas day. The younger one is a natural pheasant hunter, pointer and a flush. I thought I was gunna regret not training him as much as I was hoping but took him out at about 9 months old and he flushed and retreived a pheasant. Excellent kid dogs too

Our young lady is a terror at home at night (the puppy in her) and sleeps during the day at the shop

Thanks guys! I had tought about a retriever also... We have a 3 month old collie/ aus. shepherd cross named Outlaw. He'll be great, but I think he misses having a buddy around. I think i'll just go to the SPCA, and see what they have there. Seems like those dogs deserve a good home...

Keep the ideas coming guys!

My girlfriend had a Weimaraner when we met so now I have her dog too. It's name is Grace aka, Ol' Gray, aka Stinky cause she farts alot, but she's a GREAT dog with everyone. Funny personality. We joke that she's got more of a personality than most of out friends!!

They do have to be run/walked alot but they are good with cats (I have 2) and love sleeping on the bed and laying around all day. She thinks she's a cat most of the time!

I vote getting a dog/cat/whatever from a rescue or from a shelter, Grace was a rescue dog from outside of Pittsburg where her original owners chained her to a post in the field and would hit/kick/ not feed her. Erinn, my gf, got her when she was 1.5yrs old, and was 25 lbs! She is now 9yrs old, 55 lbs and get 6 cups of prescription food a day. She's such a sweetheart, she just had a hard life so now she's spoiled, in a good way.

The only bad thing about her is that she'll bite/nip or show teeth if two people are physically hitting each other. I know it's from her upbringing getting hit, and now she doesn't like seeing that so she'll bite/nip at the hitter..... I know it's not a breed thing, but specific to Grace cause of how she was beaten when she was a puppy.

This little one snores big time. She also hiccups (like a popping sound). I told Wanda I think she was set a little lean from the factory....

I would take a look at a British Lab if you can find a breeder. After 30 years of American Labs, I did a little research and came across British Labs. They are basically the same as Americans, but they are smaller and are very aggressive in the field. The nice thing is they can turn off their aggressiveness and are an absolute dream in the house. This is by far the smartest dog I have ever had and the wife likes her because she is only 48 lbs. One heck of a hunter though and the kids can tug on her all they want and she doesnt care!

boxer

My wife and I researched alot before we got a dog. And boxer fit our criteria which is like yours. we have a 2 year old daughter and got the pup when she was 1. they are best friends now and love the personality of the boxer. She climbs all over him pulls his ears and takes his food and toys with no problems.
If you pick a boxer make sure to research the breeder as there are some funky looking boxers out there.

I'm partial to Siberians. they get to about knee high, 50lbs, love kids and other dogs. Have to socialize them though (as all dogs IMHO). I've had none of the horror stories that comes with this breed...but i also exercise my dogs alot. Had them out today running next to the sled most of the day

Hey Jay sorry to hear about your dog bud :(

I have a Purebreed Minature Australian shepherd, he's a boy, little over 2 now. Been the best dog ive had. Anyways, I studded him out to a pure breed Somoian(SP?) and here's the result, they will be ready in 2 weeks. 1 boy and 5 girls.

My dog's only son

Thats my dog, he's a larger Minature Aussy. He's a hunting fool! and an active dog, I have taken him coyote hunting more than a few times and he's pretty good at killing coyote's himself and running them off  but he's made me pretty good at shooting yotes on the run after he chases them off and wont bring them back. Has had a few "run ins" with Badgers and Coons. The Female dog is a way laid back family dog and well, my dog is my dog and fits me to a capital "T" :D so im hoping these pups take after their mom more because my dog is as wild as I am. Anyways, you can have one for free Jay.

I will say check out an old world shepard..this is mariah(4 yrs old now) We lost a 16 yr old black lab and this is the dog the kids picked to replace him...
We got very lucky finding her..the breeder is very very respected and mormally it takes a while to get a pup from her..she will do a background check on you including wanting pics of your place..I called a half dozen of her clients and everyone raved about their dogs...And I must admit by far the best dog I have ever owned...very protective of the kids yet will let the kids climb/lay all over her...is quiet, very very, smart, well mannered and perfectly healthy.....everyone that comes near her wants to take her is the only problem....let me know if you are interested..I will give you the breeders info......

Boxers are great!

We have a boxer and a boston terrier boxer cross. We had Harley (2yrs old) the boxer about a year before we got Roxy (1yr old) the boxer/boston cross. They have become best friends, and have been wonderful dogs for us. They are both good with kids and get along well with other dogs. We get together almost every weekend with family at the cabin during summer and winter. Some weekends there are upto 4 kids under the age of 6 and 3-4 other dogs around. Roxy and Harley just run and play outside then chill out with the kids. The nieces and nephews love to cuddle and roll around with the two of them and they just lay there and wiggle thier stubby tails. One other nice thing is that they realy are clean dogs. They groom themselves almost like cats.

This is a pick from when we first got roxy....shes the little one.

Drathar

I grew up with Drathars. Great all around dog. Good with kids, great hunters, very loyal and quite possibly the ugliest dog in the world. Have a 9 yr old Bassett now, wouldn't trade her for the world. Great dog.

Thanks so much guys! All this info is exactly what I was looking for! Keep it coming, as it really helps! Beautiful dogs!

Nate, buddy, you have a PM....
