Considering a new pup.... Need ideas please....UPDATE!!! Pics of the new pup!

As many of you know, I lost my best friend Indy a little while back. She was a two year old black lab/ german shepherd/ great pyranees/ wolf cross.... More lab than anything, but you could definitely tell she was a cross/ mutt. Best dog ever....

I'd like to make a very informed decision and take my time finding a new little buddy...

Here's what would be great in a pup...

-Not super high strung
-Fairly smart
-GOOD WITH KIDS AND OTHER PETS

Can anyone help me out with suggestions, and possibly places to look?

Some have said this is the best thing to do if you lose a pet. I have my doubts, but i'm going to consider it....

Thanks guys:mad:

Reading your thread a while ago about losing Indy got me to thinking about getting a pup. We normally keep 2 dogs, lost one about 4 years ago. Decided to find a shop dog after some concideration. Forum member Westmont on here had a litter of Boxers (one of the breeds I was looking for). We picked her up and haven't looked back since. I wish we would have gotten her years ago, now.
Last week we had Tinker chipped for ID and checked over once again. No heart murmers, good kidneys etc... Weighs in at a whopping 15 pounds already ! Best part is, she loves taking baths, and is 2 handsfull of fun.

My point is I feel you are doing the right thing getting another pup. GO FOR IT !

Thanks for the support and kind words Gimpster... :D

How big are boxxers supposed to get? Pictures would be awesome!

I hope you enjoy that new best friend! Dogs are amazing!

A vote for a chesapeake, Smart, not high strung at all and love the cold. Ours has a different set of standards for kids than adults. They can pull ears, lay on her, grab her tail , 0 reaction from her. Adults well they know better and she doesnt put up with it. Here is a pic of mine

They get around 20 to 22 inches at the shoulder and around 65 lbs.
She likes grumbling back at me when I talk to her about her weak bladder. hehehe

nothing better than a lab. we have had a lad for about 11 years and she has been great every minute! smart, was kinda high strung as a puppy(what puppies arnt), she hunts great and obeys very well! they are also very good with kids! when i get a dog it will be a lab!

I have a Border Collie / Golden Retriever mix.

By far the best and smartest dog I have owned.
Great with all the neighbor kids, they all love her.
She will play fetch all day and not quit until I tell her to lay down.
Always has a tennis ball in her mouth.
Stays in our yard without being told unless we are going on a walk or getting the mail.

She's about seven years old now, and in great health.

I hate the thought of loosing her.

Dogs that like sleds!!

Seriously I grew up with Springers but love the Vizsla's. Great personality, smart as hell, clean up nice but not for everyone. Need to run them a hour each day. On my third. Here is the latest.

The best dogs we have gotten we got from the local pound!! We got our Indy for the pound and she was pregant and had 9 pups less than a month after we got her. She was the best dog, we lost her 7 years ago. About a month after we lost her, we went to the pound and found another lab mix and got another great dog. It is always worth going and taking a look.

thanks maf. we (me and my seven yr old boy) love that dog. we love to hunt with her she's about 11 months. them chesapeakes are some mean water fowl hunters though as nails. but i have never met one that wasn't growly. i'am not saying they all are but the three i have been around have been and were up there in age.
