Considering a 2012 pro with 700 miles; should i be scared?

Key moves are turn the oil screw waaaaay up, add oil to every tank, and work on keep temps lower. These moves will add a lot of reliability for you.

The Pro chasis is the best to ride out there off trail, PERIOD!

Got ya ACM. I'd be scared to turbo that motor too. It is a 600 based set-up that is light weight without exotic materials. But I know that and will never expect it to make Suzuki power with legendary Suzuki life.

I'm happy there though because I rode one for a day and it felt snappy stock (even compared to my PC SLP set-up).
Sure it was 10 mphish down in track speed ( neat thing was it seemed to make no difference, wish I could measure ground speed) but my PC isn't stock.

A couple of extra ponies to the track with clutching after shaving the head to get 125psi and .070" squish cranking at my elevation (super safe lol and undetectable), 40 to 1 oil use and PCV to give me pre EPA mid range fuel, and it will be closer. Bin der, done dat and will do it again to the pro with no worries on engine life. I already am in the habit of warming my motor up completely and pulling the exhaust and intake every 1200 to 1500 miles to inspect (even with my Cat's).

One thing I will disagree with you about is "wadda ya gonna do?" without warranty. Many exciting options out there. I've never been a turbo guy (I only want to cheat so much lol and like to pump gas into my tank) but a carbed 910 Par excites me and will outlast the sled. There's Indy dan and his warranty too.
If you blow (cases and barrels)after warranty you have to kick yourself in the nuts for waiting too long, but there are some exciting options out there.

If you just want to ride what you got you can do your homework and find quality USA aftermarket rods kits, German bearings and better than OEM pistons and seals. Give the crank and parts to your local crank guy (chances are he has done 100's of poo and doo cranks lol and knows all the tricks) and do the rest yourself and your under a grand. For a fresh engine that is debateably better than the one you got from Poo, that's not bad.
Rebuilding a two stroke is cheap. Taking your sled to near 400 lbs dry and sill take a jump or two is expensive.

i want to buy a used 2012 pro and i have found one i'm very interested in. It has 700 miles on it though. Should i be scared of the miles on it? These all come with a two year warranty right? Either way, anything i should consider doing to it for preventative maint if i do end up picking it up? Any help would be great! thanks

Vernon
I have one 2011 with 1800+ miles and one 2011 with 800+ miles.
One bad exhaust temp sensor failed. That's it. :face-icon-small-con
And no, not all come with a two year warranty.:clock:
They are terrible trail sleds but great mountain sleds.
Make sure it has scratchers, you'll need them on any trail riding conditions.
You had better be getting a heck of a deal this time of year.
Brand new 2012 Pro's right out of the box will be going for around $9,000 this fall.
The 2013 800 Pro LE 155" with the 4 year warranty snow checked for around $11,500.

yes, i would say its a good deal. Also, i doubt there are many new 2012's left overs

Vdog... get it, boost it, and go have fun.

You'll LOVE that sled with boost... it feels like it's even lighter than it is, where the cat feels heavier than it actually is.

You're taking a greater risk, anyone who denies that is full of crap & blind to reality... but IMO, it's worth it, and i'm doing the same thing. I won't take that risk for a 11 or 12, but the 13 took some big steps, and IMO, it's so far beyond cat now that it's not worth buying another cat even with the POS motor in the pro!

poo motor

I wouldnt be affraid of any of these new sleds now a days. 2000 miles (for the most part) is NOTHING on them.

you people need to realize there is 100s of 1000s of sleds out there...once in a while you are going to hear something bad about one or the other.

I am a die hard Poo rider.....but I would not ever talk about about a cat......they are all good....some are maybe a bit better in areas than the other...but all in all good sleds compared to older years.

no different than ford and chevy.....you hear good and bad about both....but both good in the end. thats why Poo, Chevy, Ford, Cat etc. are mass produced, because they are good...if they are complete junk like some of you say, they would not be in business

I picked up a 11 rental sled in november with 4505 miles. Had been turboed for a couple hundred miles in april before hand (after it left the rental life) and previous owner noticed a cracked cylinder skirt during summer lookey over. No telling when it happened cuz it was running good still. Polaris warrentied the parts, I bought it with new top end and ran it to 6512 this april. 1600 mi put on in 1000' elevation rest in mountains.

It was at the factory "scary low" oil setting, and never added oil to gas. Ran mystic syn oil.

Put new belt on when I got it and never blew all season so that was an added bonus.

To me 700 mi might as well be brand new:face-icon-small-coo

Only thing is keep up with the clutches. I had a weight bushing wear out and a roller go flat in cooke this year with 6400mi and it.

That's a good report! Of course the Cat and Doo dudes who frequent this forum will find some problem with it!

Doesn't matter to me what someone else thinks about polaris engines, I'm still going to buy one.
But not a lot of people run their sleds over 2000mi, so I skip over alot of rants on poo.
Of course I would expect an engine to go 6500 miles with no broken parts...just had a bit of bad luck @4500mi...then I put on more miles in a few months than many do in years, with no probs.

Gonna buy another 11 for next winter also:face-icon-small-hap

I only have close to 1000 miles on my 12 PRO, but sold my last 800 Polaris with over 6K on the original engine and it's still going strong!

I work on all sled brands and I own and run Polaris. They all break!
