Computer experts - External monitor question

I have a work Dell Laptop and got tired of looking at that puny 17" screen.

So I found a 26" Samsung HDTV to hook my puter to.

It looks awesome, and at the end of the day I do not have the eye strain I used to have. Everything is very clear and crisp.

One problem though, I cannot seem to get the HDTV to play sound through the speakers.

I tried going through the control panel in the sound section and selecting different choices such as "Desktop speakers" or "monitor with speakers"

I went into the TV menu itself and there seems to be no selection for what I am looking to do.

I want to have my HDTV speakers take care of the computer sounds, any ideas of how to do it?

what cable are you using to connect the monitor to the computer. if its just the standard vga cable sound will not travel through it.

x2 you have to use an DVI cable out of the laptop. I believe you can get a DVI->HDMI cable...

Standard cable is what I am using...........

That sounds like that is it!

Thanks fellas

The only thing I have on the laptop is the headphone "Hole"

Does that take the 3.5MM plug? or is that a different size?

headphone slot should would as well. It should be 3.5mm. It is on my Dell laptop.
