Compare??? 09 summit X 800 vs. 09 Polaris Dragon 800

155" & 154" tracks on the two sleds.... How does the two sleds compare in these areas:

1. Powder hill climb?
2. Playing in the trees & tight areas in deeper powder?
3. Head to head race on hard pack?
4. All around sled vs sled?

Get the xp and never look back. Both are great sleds capable of pushing the limits of what can be done on a production machine. The XP is just really really hard to beat in the fluff. The 09 clutch setup is rocket fast on a trail and still gets through the deep stuff quite well. I will say that the dragon with Walker Evans on the front is easier to ride on hard snow. If you dont care about hero snow riding then the xp is the only choice IMO

2. Playing in the trees & tight areas in deeper powder? That's a toss up, they both work good.
3. Head to head race on hard pack? The Dragon
4. All around sled vs sled? I love the powder, so the XP is my choice.

I am deciding on which sled to buy this week???!!!

I had the chance to ride the 09 Dragon last weekend for a little bit, and it was a real nice sled. It had a smooth pull all the way to 8000rpm's. The XP feels like it had a bit more power. I felt like the XP was way more balanced when trying to carve. Maybe just because I'm used to it. I could get used tot he Poo with enough riding time, but I still like how the XP handles better.

The guy's Dragon we rode owns both the Polaris, and the Doo, and he said if he had to sell one, he'd be keeping the XP. IMO, you won't go wrong with either.

Its been said before many times but make sure you try them both before you buy one. I have seen some Dragons that rip and some XP's that rip. However, I've also seen a lot of XP's that won't hold RPM's. Seems like the Dragons are a bit more "buy it and ride it" than the Doo's lately. I have ridden my buddies 700 Dragon (stock with can) and it will go all day long without thinking about clutching, heat, belts, etc. Just start it and go...I also like the EFI.

Also, I personally can't stand the feel of the XP steering where the Dragon is much easier and smooth more like my Rev. However, the Dragon is a log on the trail. Good luck, have fun.

I have also rode both and prefer the dragon. Dead even race on hardpack. The dragons take much less effort to carve. Three xp owners have rode my dragon and all of them with in the first minute had it laying on its side and them laying the snow because they cant believe how easy it carves. The xp will probably take it in a powder hill climb because it has more track. The dragon also steers much easier. The xp is better on the trail.

ive got an xp and i really like it.. its nimble and is set up for the way i ride.. never had a problem with cluthing or holding the rpm's it pulls 8250 in the bottomless powder with no problem all day long.. got about 500 miles on my belt and still looks new.. and the new polaris d8's are having problems to.. i've ridin both i like the steering on the dragon but i love the rider forword position on the xp..

All three brands have plus and minus. Look at the dealer support. A good dealer will make or break if you like the sled or not.
I am riding a Doo now sence 2002. No dealer within 100 miles. Either going Cat or Polaris next year.

Thanks for all the input. I have decided to go with the DOO! It will be hard to pass up the handling and steering of the Dragon, but I gotta try it. Now just dialing in the clutching might take a few miles & $ to figure out max power/rpm...

Great Choice!

You made a great choice! I stopped in at Basso's the other day and I am sure they will take care of you on the dealer side, they seem like they are hitting the snowmobile business head on. I don't think you will miss the steering I surely have not had a hard time steering mine. I have however rode a few of my buddies dragons, great sleds, but in my experience they have had there issues as well. I on the other hand have had no problems, and my XP RIPS. Good luck
