Cold Air Intake

I am told if you roll your sled or happen to loose your filter the turbo will suck in snow (only in deep snow of course) causing it to ruin the turbo almost instantly. Any truth to that?

wow

WOW, that about sums it up. Today I rode in 15 inches of fresh with my new CAI. My sled has never pulled harder....period. I saw 40 degree temp drops in my charge tube. I was able to hear the turbo so much more clearly. AWESOME. Felt like a new sled. I think I saw 2 lbs more boost with my CAI.

Someone ask what happens when you roll your sled. Well now I know. I ran with no prefilter today. I fence posted o a very steep face. Had to roll out of there. The intake did pack with snow. On the plus side it did not bend at all. I rolled my sled 3 revolutions down the hill and came to a stop completely upside down. 2 of us rolled it over and everything was fine. I took my filter off and beat the snow out of the cracks(ribs...whatever ya call em) and then everything was fine!!!!

So...In conclusion, I would recomend the intake I made for anyone. It is tough. Yes it is a pain in the a$$ to have to take off the filter to open the hood but it is only one clamp. Not a big deal. The power was amazing. And yes....I thought of this exact thread when we had to roll my sled down the hill.Bottom line...This is the best home-made mod I could have done to my sled

FYI

If hauling on a sled deck or a open trailer make sure you at least cover the intake. When filling up at a gas station we noticed the turbo "spooling" down while on the deck. Needless to say spinning turbo with no oil = not ideal.

Yeah for sure. I noticed the same thing when i took my uncovered sled (in bed of truck) to the airport to fill up. I now put a giant ziplock bag over the intake filter and rubberband it to secure it. And I put the cover on (most of the time). People at the trail head think its funny when the ski doo cover comes off and under it hides a turbo dragon!

Man last night I was hearing that turbo in my sleep. Its 9:45 am here in durango so time to head to the hills. Let ya guys know how ride #2 went tonight

Here is a crazy idea........ what if you ran the cone behind the headlight and got a vented headlight.....? Not that there is anything wrong with up through the hood.

I explored this idea but thought that the added length of the intake tube and the tight under hood clearence would be an issue. Especially since I used the 4" tubing insted of 3"

video update

The intake is working great and I have no regrets at all. As Jeremy posted "you can hear the turbo more"....well he aint jokin. I wanted to post this video update so you guys can hear it run. Enjoy a lil bit of boost noise...8.6lbs worth
All you hard core polaris guys will love it at 45 secs...Cat guys may not

This is at molas pass after a couple days of good snow!

Nice vid!

Going shopping for what i need to get this done on my sled tomorrow, the sound of that turbo is wicked!!:face-icon-small-sho

Are you still running without a prefilter, if so how is that working out?

Thanks for the vid props. Yeah I am running without a prefiter still. Towards the end of the day yesterday the filter started to get frozen up in the front. I do not feel it made any difference since the filter is so large and was still free on the backside. I think the 4" intake filter helps with the back still sucking tons of air. I checked the inside of the filter and ther was zero snow getting through and very very minimal condensation. I am still so happy with the change and cant get over the sound...I hear it in my freakin sleep
