co-worker has diagnosed with H1N1 and wont go home!

The guys boss needs to buck up and tell him he is officially off the clock whether he is there or not. If he is not getting paid, then he won't stick around. Just cause an employee is at work doesn't mean he is working or should be getting paid. Worst case scenario fire him.

...the week before Xmas and I was sick in bed for 5 days. Couldn't keep anything down and lost close to 25 lbs. I could see how an already unhealthy individual with a weakened immune system, or really young child could die from that. More people than we care to know about die every year.

Darcy, you need to fricken learn how to separate your drinking binges from your health issues...unless that line is so blurry that you CAN'T separate them? LMFAO

How's the liver? HAHA

O boy its H1N1 but the normal flu kills more per year. Everyone run...

Seriously. Get your boss to do something or get an outside source to do something.

And buy stock in the companies that make H1N1 masks and companies that make gloves. The media has made this sooooooo big like GW that money is going to be made in big ways.

I don't think it's really going to matter if he's sick at work or not, after showing symptoms for a day or two you not contagious anyways and he's been contagious before he showed symptoms. The CDC has stated that over the next two years damn never everybody will be exposed to the virus. Now, if your think you haven't been sick so that means you haven't been exposed to H1N1, think again. It's being estimated right now that only 50% exposed to the virus will have symptoms.

I think that's partly the issue. Everyone this guy is exposing this stuff to, has the potential to then expose their children or grandchildren, or others who could really be adversely affected (not to mention lost production time when other employees start getting sick).

Last week we had a B-day get together for the Father-in-Law. An Aunt that works at the hospital was told NOT to go by Doctors there because there was a risk that she could potentially infect a couple people who would be there that had heart issues.

Edit: Also, what person would even want to be down like you were? (Not picking on you, just using the example you put forth) Down for that many days, losing that much weight, isn't good for healthy peeps either. I'm sure you felt horrible (as anyone else whose been there has), and why risk putting someone else in that position? I understand money issues, but one shouldn't put themselves above others when it comes to potentially infecting them with something that causes them misery.

I agree. This guy should be sent home.

My post was a bit off topic, but I still believe that this whole H1N1 issue is the media's darling right now. As for when I had the flu bad, I didn't turn on the TV or radio and hear constant babbling about the donkey, ape or baboon flu and a mass panic to get vaccinated. Heck, I had some sort of flu in August. Fever, chills, nausea, the whole bit. Busiest time of year for me at work too. I stayed home for 2 days, dumped as much water as I could into myself and got over it quick.

I can't hack the hardcore boozin' anymore Scott. I hit the wall when I turned 30. ;)

I can say that I don't have any media bias about this. I don't have cable tv, thus no tv channels at all (do Netflix). I do get the local weekly newspaper, but there's not been much in it about this. I occasionally listen to the radio, but again, don't hear much about it.

I am just a firm believer that if you are sick and infectious, you shouldn't be at the workplace. I get my flu shot yearly, and will get the H1N1 when it is available to me (from my Doctor's advice). I am one that when I catch the crud, it goes to bronchitis, and several times to pneumonia. I am sick for months if I catch the crud. One time with pneumonia in my 20's, and now susceptible for the rest of my life. :face-icon-small-fro
