Clutch recall

Interesting, my old one looked like yours, the new one just has the one small drilled divot.

I asked about this the other day when in the dealer. I got a look like I just arrived on earth." Why would Polaris do that and make more work for dealers and stuff". Thinking in my head well they took a great clutch sourced it out to Bob and Teds backyard mass production clutch center to trip over hundreds to save a dime. No I would not be surprised at all. This also is the 4th time I have been in to get this under way. I have had to do most of the leg work checking VIN's waiting on e-mails from Polaris to come out with a fix. Last time I was in a week before Oct 6th e-mails came out I came in with my build dates from my covers, yes mostly likely they fall under the replacement, you will probably here from
Polaris before us, and we will call you when a fix is out to get it taken care of. Never heard a word from the 6th to 13th plenty of time and had to show them the e-mail. I have been really patient with them mostly because I know them and have bought many units there. Hopefully they ordered them I don't have a great feeling. Also refused to give me the clutch to install. I explained that it will come off when I get home to be setup and my current one was in pieces. Not sure what the deal is there. I know liability I understand all that. I just want to get this completed before and be ready for snow. I'm not happy with this whole deal and these recalls are starting to bug me some. Probably more than they should.

Curious as to what happens to the P85 clutches that are part of the recall, but have been lightened and balanced by Patrick's / TJ.

I assume Polaris wants the old junk back. I'm fine putting the original cover back on, but I wonder if the dealer will take one look at me with shiny lightened clutch in hand and immediately point me to the exit. Anyone have this discussion yet with a dealer?

Mine won’t let me just bring the clutch in…

There are not warrantee issues with our lighten and balanced clutches...Polaris Engineering has many of our carbon fiber covers and lightened and balanced clutch on many of the Polaris engineers desks...So many tests have been done on our Lightened and balanced clutches all confirming the longevity and performance gains...We talk to Polaris weekly about numerous issues...If anyone runs into a issue have them contact us please...www.patrickcustomcarbon.com

Question for TJ at Patrick Custom Carbon.
To me it sounds like the clutches that Polaris is sending out to replace the recalled clutches are balanced as long as there are balancing holes drilled in them. From what I understand from reading this thread is that even though Polaris has balanced these clutches the balancing spec is nowhere near the precise specs that you guys balance them to. My assumption is the clutches are fine to run but if you want less vibration, cooler running, better performance and longer life you should send them to Patrick's for a precision job. Am I correct here TJ?

Yes....that is exactly correct...all anyone has to do is look at the clutch you bring in (old one)and see the holes in the cover and the fixed sheave....the less holes the less probability they are balanced as close as the stock old one...Great analogy. thanks!

That clutch @Zad has obviously saw some balancing, but I'm a little suspicious at only one small dimple in the cover. The better they dial in the castings, the less balancing they'd take; I'm just doubtful they're that good... There's been lots of debate about how important a finer balancing is. I lean toward doing it because I don't trust the production tolerances, and even if the factory balance isn't bad, a fine balance could double the life of the crank and bearings. Ultimately, all any manufacturer cares about is that the sled makes it off warranty - technically, that failure rates under warranty fall below a certain percent. Spending a few hundred dollars and a few hours to get the clutch balanced and the belt setup dialed in is cheap insurance, if nothing else. I guess if you don't mind throwing money at a new sled every year or two and unloading it before the warranty's up, that's one thing. Still seems like a poor decision to me though.

just got mine yesterda, belt to sheave clearance was so large I was able to use my 47r belt I got from TRS Tony last year without having to re-shim. Got .012 clearance with the 47

tldr: belt to sheave is still way off gotta check every one

Is there a roller bearing on that p85?
Did you have to change the belt?
