Christopher's Easter Weekend Rescue (or what not to do in a blizzard)

When you are stuck and know where you are you call your family and friends to get you out! Wasting SAR money is no joke, I hope they send you the bill. . . I know my SAR team would.
I Pre-Empted the bill and sent them a large donation.

Its sounds like you as the leader didn't have enough sense to realize the danger you were putting yourself and the boys in not to mention the rescuers. It dosen't matter how awsome the snow, we all need to take a reality check...........

Huh? I AM?

When?
Saturday Morning.
Boss and Spud are leading.
I'm just hoping a tiny little bit of their combined awesomeness will rub off.
But I might just have to make due with basking in the glow of their aura! :face-icon-small-hap

good...make darn sure and pick a good spot(nasty place like a creek bottom or a deep treewell) and bury your sled...then figure out how to get it out..with nothing but your shovel..you will be surprised what you can manage to do...good practice for the future....

100% TRUTH right there. I'm the same way. I will not just ride with anybody and do only limit myself to the peeps I whole heartedly trust with my life.
To many things can happen on the hill any given day, it is important that you are with peeps that can manage any situation tossed their way.

Every time I ride with my crew the thought of "we might be staying the night" runs through my head. It's just the type of terrain we ride in that warrants those kinds of thoughts. It's also the adventure and adrenaline rush we seek that takes us into those situations. But the key factor is knowing and trusting yourself and the peeps you are with.

Keep the kiddie rides for the warm and sunny days.

Glad all are safe.........stuck on the trail. I can't help but LMAO!!:D

A word of advice Christopher before you kill yourself or someone else.....Umm guy you really do not have the experience to be leading a group into the backcountry what happened proves that. And by doing so you do not respect the mountain and that will get you or someone else killed. Buying all the gear in the world will not save you out there, only the know how counts out there and you don't know, so you should be riding with a guide or someone with the experience till you have the know how or you should not be there period.

I guess he better hope that not everyone is like BossRev, and some are willing to ride with (and teach) people that may not have all the skills yet.

It should only take a few rides with a guide or someone with the know how to learn how to get a sled unstuck and ride the backcountry safely and IMO if you do not have those skills and know how you should not be there. The facts are what they are and he knows he messed up, smart people will do what it takes not to have it happen again. People that make excuses are doomed to repeat their mistakes.

Oh Well.
So much for learning from your years and years of wisdom and backcountry experience.

Perhaps I will be fortunate enough to find another of the great and noble ones who would be slightly more willing to share in the vastness of their rich inventory of riding knowledge.

My only point was that you have to go there to get the skills. Yes, you should maybe go with someone else, but that "someone else" has to be willing to go with you....

Everyone had to start somewhere.

It looks to me like Christopher is taking the steps so that it doesn't happen again. he posted this here for people to comment on and tell him what he had done wrong, so he could learn what to do, and what not to do. I don't believe he made excuses for what he did, just laid out what happened.

Would I take a group of inexperienced guys into the backcountry with only me knowing what to do in an emergency? No.
Would I take a couple inexperienced guys with a group of experienced people into the backcountry so that the inexperienced guys could learn something? Probably.

I agree, I just didn't see him make the excuse you're talking about.

Just like stated above * words of advice * is all it is.

I'm sorry people, "You can not learn how to snowmobile from the internet"
Everything is trial and error. Christopher thought he was playing it safe by staying on the trail. He has now learned that in a blow the trail is not always safe.

He deserves a big ration of sh*t for what happened, but he also deserves to have people offer to take him and the boys out riding.

Also, there is no one out there that has not put themselves, there group and possibly S&R at risk at some point and time. We have just gotten lucky and things have worked out in our favor.
