Chain case life Gen 5

Sprocket is the same design and material, just a different cut for the chain
The process that the sprockets are made out of, are the same. Same material, the same holes etc. Regardless of the pitch of the tooth that cut on the OD of the sprocket. That’s what he ment, they are built the same, and the same design that been used for years.
Now doo went back to the machined solid steel bottom sprocket, same design but not tooth cut that came on the T3 and early G4’s.

Top post says that 2020-2022 turbo parts are the same as 2023 backing up the previous claim that the fault must be in the split drive shaft. But even if they are made the same way doesnt mean that they same level on strenght. Yeah I get it cast vs machined, but there can be good quality cast parts and bad quality cast made parts.

But yes, its good to move from cast bottom gear to machined one. Will be stronger for sure. But there was never problems with BW bottom gear 2020-2022.

And important thing to remember is that 2023 Turbo R chain & sprockets are downgraded big time from 2020-2022 turbo. Thats a fact...

If there wasn’t a problem why did BRP opt to replace a bunch under warranty?Just asking. Why is it the free members don’t seem to have any trouble? The rest of us must be just real hard on equipment
Free member here 👋. Buddy blew his chain riding downhill on the front side of our riding area after dark. Almost ideal situation to tow out of. He managed to not do any damage to his case or gears which seems to be rare on here. I rode the stock chain/gears for 1500 miles in every condition and ever riding style without fault. Slush climbs, drops, wheelies, bow ties, going way too fast down a whooped trail… that sled handled it all.

Was there a recall? Have 3 friends who has supposedly gotten new sprockets and chains when they took sleds in for the fuel line recall.

You've just restated my point.... While the '20-'22's are a Hyvo cut and the '23's were a standard Rexnord cut, they are still the same material making the sprocket. Sintered/pressed metal is inherently more brittle (especially with all the material missing from the middle) and as it is side loaded with a wobble it breaks easier. Yes, I know they are two different cuts and the Hyvo and Aurora are a stronger set up, but as you said "But there was never problems with BW bottom gear 2020-2022." The only really way to test it is to take a chain and gear from a '20-'22 and put it on your '23 or '24 and see how long that lasts.... I doubt anyone wants to chance that thought...

I have a 2022 hyvo set in my G5 with the 2022 driveshaft. It worked on 200hp turbos so it should be ok on the G5.[emoji16] You are right tho, I don’t think I would chance the lighter bottom sprocket with the two piece shaft.

interesting discussion going on about this over on snow and mud with some dudes who seem like they know what they’re talking about. spline drives, torsional, radial, and axial loads, etc. dunno if they’re right but it’s the most technical discussion I’ve seen yet and they’re less than impressed with doo’s design.

Yep, Its an interesting discussion until someone who doesn’t know, wants to argue, and makes a person wonder why bother continuing with the discussion.

one thing that created panic was the video on keeping the chain tight . People were tensioning their chain way too much and they didn’t realize theat the chain should have bin adjusted after the sled was hotbecause magnesium chain case expands after hot .
I don’t think the chain was the real problem, but with supply issues from Covid was the 23 chain a cheaper made version of the silent chain that I also don’t know but a solid possibility, I’ve run them old silent chains on lots of mod sleds a boosted 18-20 sleds in the past with a high level of success .
I did run the hyvo setup on my 23 all season last year with solid Shaft and I really just forgot about worrying about the chain after it’s first stretch, I’m not saying everyone has to run out and do that to there sled it was just my preference .

what don't they know? differing opinions is what I read over there

The difference between a trophy trucks driveshaft vs a snowmobile driveshaft. Totally different forces seen on both.
I was also referring to something on this thread as well.

What does that prove?

Probably nothing

As I wrote earlier on this thread. Rexnord std has been fairly reliable. But I have seen breakdowns on aggressive riders with a standard 850 n.a. on low mileage. But for most and average riders it has been good enough.

For years here some riders have installed "slipping gear" (bottom gear from RS) to reduce stress for the chain.

So far Hyvo setup has been first solid and reliable package from brp, especially for aggressive riders. And I speak about guys who hit big jumps and go full attack all the time.
