CFI 800 3000+ mile report

still havnt picked up my new sled yet this season. but i can cross off a used Pro800 thats out of warranty

~50% of the motors have to get opened up before ~4k miles thats rediculous

what do you do when your in 2' of snow and the motor spits the crank out the side? i do trails and offtrail (cant call it mountain riding because i live in the northeast US) so i put on ~1500miles a season. a sled that cant holdup for 3-4yrs is no good for me

Anyone have over 3000 miles on their 800 motors without catastrophic failure?

Had an 09 Dragon 800. It blew up like clockwork every 500-550 miles for a total of 4 times. Each time broken skirt and broken case $3800 in parts each time (warranty). 2012 pro blew up at 1300 miles same thing, skirt $$$$. My 2013 has 500 miles. If don't want to void your warranty I would put OEM pistons in every 1000 miles. If warranty is not an issue I would put one of the spacer kits in, either the longer pistons and spacer or a long rod kit like Power Addiction Racing does. Either one will lessen the side load on the piston and if you go with wisco pistons they will swell and improve the clearance between the piston and the cylinder. I have seen stock new pro rmk's with .006 to .008 clearance which sucks.

I had 3600 miles on my 2011 800 Rush, I now have 3200 on my 2012 switcback 800 with no engine failures or major problems. I replaced the gas filters on both and the injectors on the 2011. I am a flatlander though...

:hail::hail:

That is impressive! I have never heard of anyone putting on that kind of yearly mileage off trail. So, to get 350 a week you are riding every single day of the week for 4.5 months? Are you guiding? What part of the world are you riding in?

You must be young and in spectacular shape. I ride 3-4 days a week and it takes it's toll. I rode 10 days in a row last year and I felt like some one pounded my entire body with a sack of hammers.

You are the mileage king! I seriously doubt there is anyone else on this forum who gets even close to 6000 miles in a season. :)

Back in the late nineties when I guided out of West Yellowstone put over 8000 miles on for three years in row highest year was 1999 when I put 9700 miles on 8200 of those miles on a mountain max 700 with not one problem!!

As I'm sure you know, those have a different cooling setup than pros, especially the Rush, with four exchangers. Do you watch water temps at all, and if so, what did you see?

If you look at sleds for sale, I would say more than 50% of ALL mountain sleds for sale (any brand other than 4-stroke) have had some type of motor work before 4,000 miles.
