Cat 990 motor running 800 cat crank

I have a 2002 cat 800 that was built up to a 990. I have put it in a polaris edge chassis and wanted to know if I can run a polaris 800 clutch on it. The bore seems to be the same but I want to know if anyone has tried this and how the result was. Thanks

The cat crank has a 33mm taper, I believe the polaris 800 had a 30mm taper. To run a P85 clutch, you need to have it bored out 33mm.

Yes you sure can and its a great upgrade, but as stated by Idcatman, the taper and offset will need to be changed along with a custom bolt and spider shimming specific to your belt and weights. We also build a custom alignment bar for that combo and have solid clutching specs for the 900-1150cc big twins.
We build these conversions daily so feel free to call if you have more questions-happy to help!

STILL OLD TAPER

I am no expert but werent the 800 and i think the first year 900s the old taper which was the same as the polaris taper. I have seen people use the polaris clutch on these small taper cranks, they are not likley as good but it is what he has so i think it will do the trick.

Hey JPM, you are correct-I missed that in the beginning post:face-icon-small-sad (and I have the nerve to b!tch when other guys miss info in plain sight...geez!)

bolt, puller and alignment bar with 30mm clutch will fix him right up!

The '02 800 and all the 900s have the 33mm taper. Only the '01 800 had the 30mm.
