cascade groomer out

well, it is out.

http://www.ktvb.com/news/localnews/stories...r.2fc310fa.html

it is a LOT of work to get one of these out. My hat is off to the local guys that donated their time and equipment to fish this thing out.

We are hoping it is totalled. It sure is a long walk when something goes wrong.

If anyone sees any of hte Olson folks, Kessler, their crews, McCall Fire, and the rest of the VOLUNTEERS, many many thank yous. This project was VERY tough to accomplish, and they did it with out further damage to the cat, and without hurting anyone.

I also saw a bunch of Granite Excavation equipment there, so I'm guessing the Davis's were involved.

Again, Olson and Kessler, and Davisn donated their eqiupment, personal time, and paid employees to help out. Many others also volunteered their time.

Thank You.

What a process....so how did it get there? I heard he tried to cool the tracks, general public thinks he got lost.

5 grand to rent a tank to get it out wow! city hall must have been in a good mood that day to aprove that one . why wouldent they have just used a cat wit a winch to get it out for a 1/5 the price . but it is pretty cool to say you had to get pulled out by a tank !

a sunk groomer is one of those things that SOUNDS a lot easier to retrieve then it really is to do.

some pretty knowledgable, motivated folks spent a week.

they tried a few cats, 2 BIG excavators, 2 BIG log skidders, loader, big tow trucks, winches, cables, ropes, chains.

what finally worked was cutting a 300 foot trench throuigh 3 feet of ice by hand with chainsaws, then pulling hte ice to shore by hand, then dragging the cat throiugh the channel to shore.

The cat that went down was the PB Edge, basically a new name for the old 300.

I can't believe the operator still has his job doing that, even if he was a volunteer it would be hard for our club to let that one go. Unless of course it was standard practice to groom on a lake with such thin ice?

The news anchor/reporter says $300-500,000 for the groomer. Just a bit high as I can bet they only paid in the mid $200's for it. Where is the rest of it? Meaning the drag or the tiller? If the cat was on the ice without it's attachments then what was it doing there at all? A cat without attachments is no cat at all!

Drying it out isn't going to be the only thing needed. Rest assured the bill once it's at the shop will top $20K not to mention the full cost of getting it out, the down time, etc., and it will mean the end of any and all warrantys as well. Just wait and see.
