Carbed 2 stroke turbo guy's !!!

Dynamically Venting the sides to a pitot is JUST one way to do it..

In the case of the oem flatslide like yours you could go that route or a bov from powderlites,, very nice unit.
The only issue with a BOV is venting it away from clutchs and soforthe.

bowls will always be vented to airbox for a static signal.

oil pressure for a ball unit will be very very low, Twister has a nice small unit .
Shane uses the oem injector pump to supply oil on his sleds..

ball units just need oil present NOT under high pressures as a plain bearing would need..

How would a 600ho turbo kit work at 2000ft? I dont think I have ever seen a flatlander turbo, most are all 6000ft+ I have seen.

Thought some of you 2-stroke turbo guys would like this video! Here is a flatlander "2-Stroke" Turbo sled in action, 1994 Yamaha Vmax-4 "Full-Bodied" production chassis weighing 765 pounds with driver...

Thank you to whoever just posted this video on YouTube. This is the first time this season that I ever had the opportunity to watch my sled in action with me on it in 2009.

This particular video was the NSSR Speed Run in Chetek, WI on February 21st, 2009. We took 1st place in "Lake Racer" Class plus "Top Speed of the Day", think it was 157.5 mph in 1000'. This particular run being filmed the sled broke 3 reed pedals off the line (listen for bog) and broke traction 2-times going down the 1000' strip. This particular run I dropped boost by 5 pounds to help reduce the track spinning and still pushed a 156.5 in 1000'.

Oh I can't wait for 2010 season, many new things in the works!

Enjoy,

I watched a turbo yammi 4 cyl at the hill climb in Jackson many many moons ago......those things sound soooo unique

Hey Gus, If I understand correctly the BOV will also help the turbo keep spooled when you're in and out of the throttle? Any specific advantage with venting back into the turbo or is it good to just vent outside the belly pan?

The BOV can be dumped into the turbo to help when you get back in it, but most just dump it to atmosphere.

Yeah, but if you vent to atmosphere, just be sure to vent away from the clutches because you will get an oily residue shot out of the BOV under the hood when it opens.

Well Gus you have inspired me.

I've been hunting down parts and pieces. Just about got everything together. Gonna start fabbing things in a week or two.

Any one have suggestions for instrumentation. brand?...type?

Hey Gus, other than a set of adjustable power jets in the carbs do you recomend any other form of supplemental fuel?

Thanks for all your help

Tony,, the power jets are all you will ever need..
Yes, dump the bov back to the inlet of the turbo for least reduction of turbine rpm when off throttle..

keep up the good work Tony.. your almost a boost junkie !!!! I need a fix man !!!:D:D:D

Ok ive been toying with the idea of turboing my xlt for a few years but thought it would be to much of a shot in the dark so i decited to build a wc triple and all but just for giggles how well does piston port triple on boost will the stock pipe work ok

My brother has an older Cat EFI sled , and they dont make turbo fuel boxes for them . And he has an extra Areo Charger 53 kicking around .Is there a way to use power jets on a pre M chassis sled ? Maybe just run the efi , and add fuel for boost with the power jets? Where is a good place to buy power jets?

Great thread Gus.

Piston port triples work awsome with turbos,, man, thats where it all started////

Jack Harris in utah sells powerjet set ups..
but that will be useless with efi as you have no BOWL to draw fuel from..

So isnt the fuel in the bowl just sitting there ? I really dont know much about how power jets work .

Do they just draw fuel from airflow past the nozzle? And if so could i just build my own bowl , maybe just a small tank with mixed fuel just for the power jets ?

If i mounted the tank just a bit below the power jets so it did not gravity feed . I have never looked at a power jet so i dont know how they work . Do they have a way to stop fuel flow ? Or is it just various size jets for a nozzle that siphons its fuel based off of air flow.

I am thinking about trying to just run a 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 regulator and see if i can get away with that . This is for my nephews Mtn Cat 600 and we just want to run low boost on pump gas . Maybe 6 - 8 lbs , we just have a small version of the 53 just sitting there doing nothing .

We were thinking this would be a fun project for a 13 year old and his dad. Thanks for your help Gus.

You can also build an aluminum fuel manifold log off your post outlet of your electric fuel pump as "Power Jet's" are boost referenced from the float bowls. We draw fuel from our pressurized fuel log instead of drawing from float bowls, i don't like inaccuracies in the float bowls with feeding 500 h.p., never had in issue in 5-years with starvation, but we also use a 1/2" I.D. main feed fuel line.

Ya the fuel is ( just sitting there),, so you could make a bowl of un pressureized fuel.
pulling fuel from a pressurized fuel log reqiures a method of shutting that fuel off when not under boost, it would just flow into the engine regardless of it being running or not, as long as the fuel pump is ON the external circuit would be dumping fuel into the engine.

the power jet would pull fuel when butterfly opens past its tip, the airflow over the nozzle siphons fuel from the bowl or well into the airstream..KISS..

keep it simple stupid...LOL:face-icon-small-coo

We use a pressure set HOBB switch on our electric fuel pump pre-set to (2 psi) to turn on the pump and shut it off, never has been any form of issue with excess fuel during circuit shutoff. When the slides shut and pressure begins to drop, excess fuel returns to fuel tank thru return port of pressure regulator. Its real simple!

Thanks alot for all of the help guys . I have a few Hobbs switches laying around . So how about contact info for Jack Harris , or where is the best place to pick up some power jets ?

I would prefer to use a fellow snowester if possible . I have had good luck buying from Twister and others on here.

I am looking at a turbo for my 03 zx 800 doo. thinking of building it from the ground up I have got a friend that has one on a 800r just woundering if there is anything that i need to do to the carbs that you have not already said in or other posts. And I know you said carb ? only but what do you think of a 2871 for the application? I would like to run pump gas only? THANKS FOR ANY HELP

The 2871 is what I use on my Rotax 800 turbo kits. If yours has all the correct specs you should be good to go. Good luck on your build.

FYI-- I will build turbo kits for the ZX chassis if you are interested.

Dano, put the switchs in a bag and sell them on e bay.
You do not need any type of pressureized log for supply of additional fuel..

you need only an MSD pump that can be purchased thru cpi, jegs or turbowerx and the mallory regulator.

Call turbowerx and get everything from Dave.

In the yamaha case, they have very small carbs and bowls, maybe they ran into a delivery issue and needed an external supply due to limited flow thru the needle seat ?/ I don't really know what THEIR issue was.

Sufice it to say MY K.i.s.s system will fuel over 500 hp on the 995 rt twin CARBURATED on boost with a 3082 hybrid garrett..:D

NO switchs period,, just a kill and tether..LOL
