Buying New Furniture

So shopping for new couch and love seat
want micro fiber and reclining.

whats the best way to go about a deal here was in slumberland for those who know who that is they have a couch and love seat we like for sofa 599 love seat 579 original price was suppose to be 850 i guess he said the store messed up and left a sales tag in when they were not suppose to, so whats the deal how to get a better deal? i sold cars and am assuming he is as full of sh!t as the rest of us were? any good online shops or suggestions appreciated

Check out furniture stores in some smaller towns.
They generally have good quality & fair prices & salespeople who will actually HELP you.

We've got slumberland here. Pretty overpriced compared to calling someone like Inwood Furniture in Inwood IA. My parets bought Livingroom and bedroom sets from Omaha Furniture delivered up here for far less that what local places wanted for the same thing.

One thing I would reccomend is to not go the cheapest route. make sure it's quality stuff. I just went through the furnature shopping thing about 6 months ago. I went and looked at a lot of stuff and was looking at the price tags first then I went to the Lay-Z-Boy store and looked at their stuff. Pricey yes but a lifetime warranty on the frame work. ask them to flip it over to see the frame and compare the Ashley or like stuff to the good stuff like Lay-Z-Boy. You'll see what I mean right away. I found that the bargain furnature stuff was JUNK and I do have some of it. I had to shell out 12 bones for my sofa alone but the thing is built like a tank and has a lifetime warranty on the frame. If you have kids or are a big guy or have big lugs for friends and family, take that into consideration. JMHO.

Well when they see a dude named hesse and offer you that free bottle of water they usually do, the manager said "HEY LETS FART IN HIS WATER BOTTLE". Then screw him over on furniture.

Being in a direct relation to the furniture industry I can tell you this. Make every effort you can to buy American made products. I see first hand the quality of workmanship from overseas products. China buys all the junk from me.

I've been doing the furniture shopping thing for a bit now, my wife and I went to several stores last weekend and got so frustrated we just had to stop.

We found a leather set (sofa, love seat, and chair all reclining) , really well built, and lifetime warranty on frame, and the list price was $3200. This was also the beginning of their president's day sale, which was make as "purchase of $999 or more, and get $100 off." So, knowing that there is plenty of markup in furniture, hence the reason they can offer 40-70% off sales, I asked her what her bottom dollar best deal was. She went and did her little thing, and came back and said $2999. I said, "thats not even as much as your sale states." She said "no, its $100 off if you spend more than a $1000." So i proceeded to tell her that, "considering each piece is roughly $1000, that should mean that I get AT LEAST $300 off. She argued with me that that's not what it means, yada yada. So I said, "well, i could buy each piece individually and get $100 of each right?" She said, "Well, i guess, but thats not what was intended."

So after going back and forth for a while on that, I told her, "well, the most I will pay is $2,800." So, she said, I'll have to go see my manager. So she goes off, whatever, comes back and says, "the manager says that the price i offered you is the best price we can do." I said, "thank you for your time and have a great day."

I was floored that the manager didn't do ANYTHING better than what her salesperson offered. Plus, they weren't even doing as much as what their sale stated. We even mentioned that we would be doing this set now and probably another set in a year or so, all cash transactions. Still...Nothing. Needless to say I'll never go back there again.

Pretty amazing how little business sense people have.

interesting stuff slumberland was offering a new simmons mattress a few weeks ago queen size for 498 well that about as cheap of queen in a name brand you can buy decided to get it. well a week later it was up to 850 so i know at 498 they not losing money. so thats 100% markup

there are things called price point items. you advertise them for one reason to lose money. the whole reason is your trying to get people into the store then step them up into a better item.

remember with furniture, you get what you pay for. a 599 sofa is a cheap sofa. also there isn't a lot of markup in furniture. and they aren't car dealers. good luck.

im familiar with a loss leader item. like in grocery stores hamburger at .99 a lb and make up money on everything else they buy. with a mattress there not much to add to it. and believe me the guy was not trying to upsell me he wanted to sell that mattress

and i am willing to bet percentage wise there is way more mark up in furniture than cars. What do you think average price mark up on a new car is? how about a used car?
