Buying a 2006 SB 900

I just put a deposit on this sled, it looks completely stock, only has 1134 miles, and looks like new. I thought it was a great deal. Then I started searching and found a lot of threads here. I can turn a wrench so I am not afraid of having to do some work. However, I do not want to wrench more then I ride! The sled is at a dealer, but not a Polaris dealer, it is a Yam/Doo dealer.

They want $3500 for it. Should I run away? :) I am supposed to pick it up Saturday.

I did a lot of reading here ( including the read before you buy thread ) and am not afraid. What is a must change? From what I read:

Vents
Upgraded Polaris belt
Mounts

Most of the links I found are dead. Do they still make the parts needed? Thank you for any insight! Is there a way I can figure out of in any of the updates were done?

In addition to your list I would add scratchers if on the trails. For the two that I ride on the trails I have the flexible slidekicks. Work great because you do not destroy them when you go in reverse.

If you do the maintrenance in the off season you should not issues in the season. I love mine. Had them for two years and not a single major issue.

Have a hard time riding anything else

I would recommend that you take a look at the oil pump cable to be sure it is returning properly, check intake boots THOROUGHLY for cracks, and just do a good inspection of the sled to be sure nothing was abused. Generally speaking the 06s are more reliable motor wise so you most likely won't have to worry about much there aside from standard maintenance. Be sure the wires are routed to prevent chaffing (and be gentle if you need to move them). Aside from that, most of the changes you would need to make are to set up the machine; 08+ spindles, gripper skis, adjustable shocks, remove sway bar, vents, bumper, etc, etc....

Good luck:bounce:

Maintenance is standard as on any sled, check the set up of oiler cable throttle cable etc.
Look for mount issues before you leave the dealer ( may fix or discount ). Polaris dealer should run VIN for you or maybe someone here can?
Ride it like you stole it... then decide on mods, some are inexpensive can, helix, track spring, used spindles etc and offer great returns on investment.
Welcome to the Elite Club of 900 ownership or as some say the Dark Side.

And it could be worse like an 800 dragon but we don't want to ruffle feathers..:nono:
