Himark, you still had the chance to walk away. You also could have gave him a cashiers check that was $300 less. Just this weekend I looked at a skidsteer that was listed on Craigslist for $12500. I drive 100 miles to get there and agree to buy it from him and a trailer to go with it for another 1500. Comes time to write the check and he says it will be another $500. "Re did the math" he tells me. I shook the dirt off my feet and drove home, no skidsteer. Will not buy from that dishonorable person.
